The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

Any future reference to Vivek Ramaswamy or JD Vance (or pretty much my other MAGA Republican) should be preceded by the words “rape apologist.” For example “Rape apologist Vivek Ramaswamy is trailing in the polls,” or “Rape apologist JD Vance wants to ensure the Epstein files remain sealed.”

motherjones.comGOP doubles down on ad exploiting Ohio Democrat's childhood rape and abuseGubernatorial candidate Amy Acton's stepdad was indicted for raping her. Acton's mom, who supported him, now stars in an ad for her opponent.

Some people don’t understand that Halloween (aka All Hallows Eve or the Eve of All Saints Day) is actually part of the Christian calendar. They peddle silly ideas like “Jesusween,” whatever that’s supposed to be. Instead, like keeping Christ in Christmas, let’s keep the Hallow in Halloween.

Republicans defending the pro-Ramaswamy are revealing just how deep their misogyny runs. Leave aside that an estranged mother who had her children taken away and hasn’t seen her children in 48 years is not a reliable narrator. No woman is obliged to reveal she has been sexually assaulted. 1/2

I actually find it a bit odd that the @albertandp.ca are advocating a “no” vote on Question 7. Abolition of the undemocratic Senate has been CCF-NDP policy from the very beginning of the movement. #AlbertaReferendum #albertapoli

Today is the day, Alberta! Get out and make your voice heard, and most importantly, help save Canada. I urge you to vote in the best interests of all Albertans. Vote Option 1 on Question 10 and NO to the other 9 questions. Canada today, Canada tomorrow, Canada forever! 🇨🇦

What's extremely telling is that there is never once an article like this written from the perspective of the person who cut off their parent.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

The entire thread is @schiff.senate.gov @adamschiff.com demonstrating a rather stereotypical lack of self awareness, but this takes the cake. He can’t grasp the concept that Canadians might buy wine from somewhere besides California. 1/2

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

Without American wine on Canadian shelves, Canadians are also missing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue they would obtain from selling our wine.

2/2 Seriously, dude, we’ll collect tax revenue when people buy wine from Chile, or New Zealand, or France, or South Africa, or a dozen other countries. #GreenDay can rerelease #AmericanIdiot, with the new video being Schiff, myopically wandering around Canada making a fool of himself.

2/2 Your presence in Alberta as a *foreign* politician in the midst of a referendum campaign is 100 percent inappropriate interference in our democracy. If your intention was to get us to feel better towards the US, and California in particular, you’ve failed. Idiot.

Hey, @theguardian.com !!! You mean: Russia and Ukraine resume strikes as Trump’s imaginary ‘energy ceasefire’ turns out to be ‘a tale, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Delusional

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: You said Russia and Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire, but both sides said they have not agreed to that TRUMP: Well they agreed, you know why? Because I said 'you agree.' That's why.

Funny how in the UK objecting to Israeli policy in Gaza means you’re a terrorist, while attempting to sink a Royal Life Saving Society vessel with reckless disregard for the lives on board makes you a person whose legitimate concerns about immigration should direct government policy. 1/2

Fascinating. Ukrainian drones take out Russian data centres an far right online chatter immediately drips by more than 50 percent. Now, correlation is not causality, but . . .

I can’t understand why future Hague defendant Donald Trump is so keen to destroy the International Criminal Court. I’m sure that Trump, and Hegseth, and Rubio, and all the rest of them will be well treated as they await trial.

The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals has vacated a manslaughter conviction based on the fact that the victim was a trans woman, which had not been raised at trial. So basically, the fact that the victims was trans could be justification for the killing. So tell me again that it’s not genocide.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

A Tennessee appellate court has ruled that the killing of a woman may have been justifiable because she was trans. The court reversed a conviction, stating that the killer could have a new trial because the jury did not know the woman killed was trans. Trans panic in the modern era.

A little older, but it includes gems like this: “Liturgy doesn’t distinguish between generations. It’s kind of like how I don’t play Xbox with my grandma, and she doesn’t knit with me. But we both know how to sit down and share a family meal.”

millennialpastor.caConfessions of a High Church MillennialI have a confession to make. It will probably be surprising for many to hear from a millennial: I am a high-church liturgy nerd. For many of my 31 years in the church, I have been told that my gene…

Watching the culture wars over Christmas heating up on social media. No one gets angrier about “not being allowed to celebrate Christmas ” than a completely secular white person who never attends church, couldn’t accurately tell you the Nativity Story, and who’s favourite carol is “Rudolph”. 🙄

If only. For Americans generally, words like “socialism” and “communism” have no objective meaning. They are merely random insults. When the Wall Street Journal says UK PM Andy Burnham is “unabashedly socialist,” it’s like a three year old calling the neighbour kid a “stoopy-poopyhead.”

Just over two months into his tenure as U.K. prime minister, Andy Burnham is laying the groundwork for an unabashedly socialist overhaul of the British state.

Some people didn’t believe me when I said all transphobes were fascists. Don’t believe me. Believe the TERFs themselves . . . as transphobe celebrates the success of a neo Nazi party in a recent German state election.

Today's Labour party would have supported Mosley's fascist march through Jewish areas of London and condemned the anti-fascist coalition who stood in their way.

"I don't think any elected politician should be supporting an illegal protest" Chris Bryant (the secretary of state for Northern Ireland) says Michelle O'Neill (the first minister of Northern Ireland) is wrong to stand with people defending their community.

Random thought about the “I am” statements in John’s Gospel. The Living Water discourse really should have been the first “I am.” (Am I actually copy editing the author of John? Yes, I believe I am.)

I don’t know the provenance of the quote, but . . . well, yeah. "Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone."

In a few days, Prime Minister Carney is inviting some of the world’s richest CEOs to Toronto to buy up Canada’s resources, public infrastructure, and more. We won’t save Canada by selling it off to the highest bidder. Join us, and let's build a Canada for the many, not the money.

"Never mistake our tolerance for lack of determination. And never mistake our kindness for softness.” Sadly I doubt Hoekstra understood, an neither will Trump if he ever hears of it. They see our velvet glove. They are too stupid to notice the iron fist.
