New Autism assessment. Your wearing only T shirt and shorts, twenty feet away through snow is a bag of Carolina Reaper Peanuts you can retrieve if you wish. If you’ve retrieved them and are snacking on them during your assessment, it’s done and you get your rubber stamp.

As someone who studied the hard sciences, the degree to which medicine and biology is driven by dogma and consensus rather than data is always shocking to me. Lobotomy SSRI discontinuation syndrome Statin muscle issues In all cases experience and professional statements are at odds. 1/2

Next time someone says “spelling is just facilitated communication and it’s been disproven” show them this study. For once the evidence was looked at rather than the dogma repeated. Progression to free typing is the nail in the coffin of presumed incompetence. A motor condition is being mistreated.

Newsom is another Tulsi. She’d played the liberal but wasn’t, there had always been some concerns given fathers anti LGBT stance. We saw only the tip of the iceberg yesterday. This man does not belong anywhere near the presidency! #recallnewsom

Whom ever decided to pack hundreds of mega watts of lithium ion into a configuration that could have a chain reaction did no one any favors. Evacuated people will go home, but the damage to a critical technology is dire. 1/2

What the press won’t mention. This isn’t an issue of “lithium batteries” this is an issue of an ill thought out Lithium Ion facility. A facility with proper isolation wouldn’t do this. Nor would an LFP (lifepo4) lithium battery facility. LFP doesn’t experience that sort of failure mode.

Development thought of the day “premature optimization is bad” applies only in code that’s encapsulated. It can be swapped out with optimized logically identical code, well tested and plopped into production. BUT… 1/2

Architecture is a whole other game. You may have one user, but you had better design with millions in mind. It doesn’t mean you have to implement for millions today, but you need a clear path forward. My Heresy: A Rust/axum monolith is potentially simpler and vastly faster than micro-services.

Alternate day fasting alternates fat burning deficit days with surplus days that can (re)build muscle in environment of high insulin sensitivity, and high growth hormone. My experience is of easy strength gains along with steady fat loss. Very different experience than calorie restriction.

Weird realization about Rust iterator foo. It kept feeling familiar, why? It’s essentially logically equivalent to SQL. A pipeline data is “pushed” through. Amazing thing is the assembly code that comes out is as efficient as that from good C/C++ code.

Rust is a language you hate at first but it’s just interesting enough to keep going. Then your past the hard stuff and fall in love. It’s finally brought the high flying CS academic stuff down to earth, made it practical and performant. Finally a worthy successor to the C franchise.

“Don’t learn to code AI is coming for your job” coding is just the final stage of the process. Yes some teams exist where some people do nothing but code to an exacting spec. But this isn’t your usual programming position.

Understand a large legacy system. Understand what the customer really needs. Understand what tools are available. Understand how this will all interact. At the end of all that coding is the easy part. AI may arrive there but it isn’t even close now. If it can do that job it can also do the CEOs…

Postgres JSON in ETL process. External input is often best and most generally represented as a hierarchical structure. You don’t necessarily know up front what matters most in the data. For example I worked on processing state energy data. One record could be huge, you didn’t know up front. 1/2

What the analysts needed. How to stay flexible? Toss it all into a JSON table. Then pull it apart in SQL. Analysts need a new data piece? You can update that SQL and reprocess without rerunning your import code. Ten billion rows and terabytes of data worked well under this scheme. 2/2

You are up to date.
