Researchers reviewed 105 Long COVID and ME/CFS clinical trials and found major gaps in how treatment success is measured. Only 18% of Long COVID trials assessed post-exertional malaise (PEM). Many relied on fatigue scores that miss disability & crashes. www.frontiersin.org/journals/pub...

Low-dose naltrexone (4mg) shows promise for Long COVID. A Stanford study of 230 patients found fewer symptoms and improvements in fatigue, brain fog, sleep and post-exertional crashes after 3+ months. Promising results, but without a comparison group, benefits remain unproven.

Human neural stem cells are highly vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2, including Omicron. Researchers found blocking one entry pathway cut viral entry by 75–85%. Maternal infection may disrupt fetal brain development, risking long-term cognitive or behavioural issues. Monitoring exposed kids is critical.

New research involving 378 hospitalised COVID-19 patients found that elevated levels of IL-6, an inflammatory signalling molecule, and neutrophils together in a blood test identified patients with a 14-fold higher risk of death. The test could improve risk prediction, but further research is needed.

Who knew the solution for global warming is solar over our deserts also solving our energy problems by exporting electrons to the world benefiting some folks hardest hit by rising heat levels? Imagine if grass starts growing under those panels? YES THAT KIND OF GRASS 🙌
Solar farms in the Gobi are cutting dust storms. A study of 17 farms found the panels slow surface winds by more than 9% and make soil up to 17% less erodible, reducing springtime dust by about 352,000 tonnes a month. RenewEconomy buff.ly/bambHT8 #ShareGoodNewsToo

PJ.2.1 is an emerging COVID variant worth watching. It's been gaining ground in Canada, the US and Spain. Early research suggests it may bind more strongly to ACE2 receptors on our cells, potentially helping the virus enter cells and spread more easily, rather than relying on greater immune escape.

A new preprint suggests SARS-CoV-2 has evolved to become harder for our immune systems to recognise. Researchers found that newer variants, including XBB.1.5 and KP.2, are less easily recognised by immune cells that detect new threats. KP.2 was recognised 3 times less often than the original strain.

A study found that persistent taste problems after COVID-19 infection may result from damaged taste buds and reduced levels of a protein called PLCβ2. This disrupts signals to the brain, making sweet, bitter and savoury flavours harder to detect, while salty and sour tastes remain unaffected.
