September was full of bangers. Lot's of @gmtgames.bsky.social on the table and some economic Games as well. Can't complain.

Just can't get enough of @volko.bsky.social's "Coast Watchers" by @gmtgames.bsky.social. Probably my game of the year. Looking forward to the other games in the Recon Series.

First play of "In the shadows" by @danbullock.bsky.social & @josephnschmidt.bsky.social, released by @gmtgames.bsky.social, in over a year. What an elegant game! Honestly I don't know why it took so long to bring it back to the table. Love the mix of classic CDG with a COIN feel. 👌🏼

I recently revisited The British Way by @gmtgames.bsky.social as it is my go-to game when I want to introduce new people to the COIN system. I chose the Palestine scenario, as it has all the essential mechanics without some of the more complicated concepts like control, support or geography.

My buddy did quite alright. His major criticism though was, that he wished for more iconography rather than continuous text on the player aid. This is something we've already seen in the recently released Cross Bronx Expressway. I thought this was a very nice thing to have.

@volko.bsky.social As I imagine you're still involved in the series: is this something that's getting discussed in the development process at @gmtgames.bsky.social? I can imagine this would help to get more people into COIN games. 🤔

First play of "Twilight Struggle" by @gmtgames.bsky.social in almost 2 years. That's kind of embarrasing. Still, such an elegant design. Won't let it happen that this game doesn't get played for such a long time.

"Baltic Empires" by Brian Asklev, art by @zweigefuhle.bsky.social and released by @gmtgames.bsky.social. What a beautiful game in every aspect. It comes across as a very simple game, but oh boy, this has layers. Lot's of levers you can pull on your way to victory. You just have to see them.

Another play of @volko.bsky.social s "Coast Watchers" by @gmtgames.bsky.social. First time we were going for a 5 turn scenario. Tight game, the Japanese won with 3 points! Managed to do some rescues and flood the islands with CWs, but my opponent was clearing a path good for his OPs. Great game!

Seljuk by @gmtgames.bsky.social got played again and of course in our second play the rules flowed much more. In our first play the rules were a bit much to remember, but once you get a few plays in, this game runs smoothe like an oiled machine.

It makes the game a bit slow, but on the other hand logistics are a key element to Levy & Campaign. Guess it will take a few more plays to solve that riddle properly.

From what I can say after those two plays is that I really really like this game. I already loved l&c after playing Plantagenet, but now I absolutely adore it.

Part of this is, that everything you do makes thematically total sense. Therefore the rules are a bit easier to digest, even if there are lots of them to keep in mind. But just use you imagination and it all makes sense.
