I'd love to get 5 more responses on this quick survey. That'll take it to 50, which is, of course, the number of strangers whose preferences you should definitely structure the next decade of your life around

I'm trying to gauge interest in a potential project. Can I ask for your help, please? It's a two-question multiple-choice survey, it'll take 30 seconds, I won't get your name or email, you can do it in an incognito window. Please be honest! A broad range of truthful responses will be most helpful.

Yearning for the "2001 Windows XP commercial" feeling

Blast From the Ads@blastfromtheads.bsky.social

2001 Microsoft Windows: Retro Screen-Time Magic Remember that first time Windows XP felt like it opened the world for you? This commercial leans into the dreamy “Bliss” landscape—bright blue skies, soft clouds, and that fresh, crisp green hill—like your PC had been upgraded to match the day. If you

First time I heard of a novel adaptation on PS2. This console was WILD.

Ogre Run@ogre-run.bsky.social

Murakami’s novel, “The World Five Minutes From Now” (五分後的世界) was actually adopted into a sound novel for the PS2. It’s quite interesting, especially given the subject matter and year, and the soundtrack is excellent.

Learnt that EA didn't even want to buy Bioware. They wanted Pandemic Studios, so they bought its parent company, which also owned Bioware. Bioware's success is inspite of EA, not because of it.

Dragon Age II was my first western RPG, and seeing how choices changed the flow of the story was eye opening for teen me. Introduced me to bigger, better WRPGs. Thank you, Bioware. RIP.

Modern Day of Assassin's Creed IV is time capsule of late 00s/early 2010s techno-futurism. Like how everything looked so polished a sleek before flat design took over.

Zune, Windows Vista, iPhone 4S, early 2010s BeatsByDre. Glossy Skeuomorphism. That but for Office Cubicles. Modern Day meta-contextualized how game companies cynically capitalizing bankable ideas to make AAA games, great satire. Removing from remake was playing into that satire.

Finished : Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag (2013) It's a fun enough AAA game, but didn't made me as excited as others. Technical marvel, gorgeous, ship navigation/warfare are highlights. Loved the personal struggle story. Rest is meh to not good.

Modern Day was great. LOVE the meta-commentary of a media/entertainment company twisting real world stories to sell vapid video games. THEY EVEN SAY HIGHER UPS TOLD THEM TO MAKE ANNUAL SEQUELS!

n the same email thread, someone asks "we can use these memories for better research", and one employ goes full schizo why that's stupid. Just like real corporate. Wow.

But other things deflated excitement. So many pointless activities necessary for ship upgrades. And while infiltration missions are fun, tailing missions are far too many. Moreover, it didn't made me interested in the setting like older ACs, pirate and mayan stuff vaguely touched

ACIII was heavily flawed but there was lot of heart + exploration of American founding through eyes of Native American. It was interwoven with plot. ACIV is mostly a personal tale that happens to involve Assassins vs Templars. Not what I come AC games for.

Praise : I CAN'T stress enough just how much technical marvel this is. Weather, look/feel of the water, the way you seamlessly go from your ship to land/ship, how fog hides ships, how in dark foggy fights the thunder reveals position of ships, it's impressive.

Story setup is great. Personal story of a foolhardy, misguided ambition of a prideful man, who watches as everything falls apart. Good twist on your typical AAA western game story. There are some banger quotes throughout the game.

In the Japanese PC-88 port of Ultima 3: Exodus by Pony Canyon, if you try to Talk/Transact (T key) to an enemy monster, they literally say "FUCK YOU!!" in English. Hilarious, and apparently nobody has discovered or posted about this before online in English or Japanese

Clannad made me a better person. I can't thank Jun Maeda enough. Devastating news. Praying for his health for his remaining time with us.

Kars@karoshimyriad.bsky.social

Jun Maeda has been diagnosed with pharyngeal cancer after a medical exam following more pronounced pain and swelling in his throat. He has chosen not to pursue active treatment and instead will focus on palliative care, wishing to conserve his strength and devote himself to his creative work.

Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies has one of the coolest post mission score screens that I've ever seen. You get to watch a recording of your mission showing the flight path of every pilot, keeping track of who was shot down, and when. It just looks very slick
