I think I only watched some of the first season very, very long time ago and didn't remember almost anything. BUT, for years whenever something mysterious happened in movies/games, I would turn to Lia and say "uhh, Dharma?"...this is very funny to me now having finished it lol

right now there's no guarantee AI usage becomes embedded in indie games. We're a scene. We don't HAVE to be this. Individual choices couldn't matter more in this moment. To see that you can make a small, positive impact at mild inconvenience to yourself and say "nah" is to give up on a better world.

Martin Ferenc reposted

Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading. This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.

GamesIndustry.biz@gibiz.bsky.social

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg

like yeah some games that go to die on steam *are* someone's actual passion project that they forgot to market during its 6 year development but when people trot out the "there are 15 quintillion games released on steam every day" please remember the vast majority of them are not that

I went through that carousel and pressed the "ignore" button on most of the games there. You know what happens when you do that? Absolutely nothing 🙃 They're all still there 🙃

Out of curiosity I looked through my discovery queue and it's kinda the same story, ignored most of the games. I simply don't understand how this happens, based on all the data they have on me as a customer. Completely useless.

Devs are seeing significant wishlist spikes now before release driven by the calendar. Who knew that players want to see and play more games like those that they already like, right? I hope they expand on that in the future...

Out of 24 games in that top carousel I remember checking store pages of maybe three of them. There's a single game from my wishlist. Of course, it's a AAA game, a rare one for me: Death Stranding 2. 1/24. Great job guys. Very data driven.

That's just to say...idk, there's always talk about Steam algos and how data-driven Valve is, but are they really? I'm not buying or playing these games, yet it's always this same shit that takes up billboard sized features at the very top. Why show it to me? Why waste the space?

You literally have all the data, you know what I buy and play and wishlist. I simply don't understand it. It's even more jarring now after they made personal calendar a proper part of the store. It's such a cool change but also weird that it took them this long?!

A while back I joked with a friend that no matter what day it is, what sale or event is happening, you'll always see RDR2 on the homepage without having to scroll down. (It's actually in that carousel now, too, ofc)

Czech countryside is largely defined by small hills for me so I added some terrain and a photo mode, where you can look at the landscape from a different perspective. #indiedev #indiegame #gamedev

why would you try to lock down all the big picture elements of your game before going anywhere near polish when you can instead rush into making something that "looks finished" which ends up introducing rigor mortis to the rest of the project that you have to work around. absolute waste of time.

very annoyed at the concept of vertical slices and demos at the moment... cant help but feel like this sort of stuff just poisons the natural flow of how things are made

Yes, Sony DSC-RX10 V with its 24-600 focal length would allow me to take pictures of the rabbit. And other animals, too! Hell, it might solve every problem in my life for all I know...for a *very fair* price of 2 559 €

Anyway, the rabbit thing... I'm in the city not suburbs so it's strange to see wild animals here. He found this area that's currently closed off to people and he's got a decently sized patch of greenery all to himself! I'm fortunate to have good view of that area. Hope he comes back soon.

Hoped to put something together for Falling Block Jam but just couldn't bring myself to it in the end. Got no energy and not in a good place overall. Had an idea before the jam started, but lots of people went in a similar direction with their entries due to the theme, so that didn't help either.

Chris posting about his game months ago is actually how I discovered mancala. An entire family of games completely unknown to me until then! I've since played and enjoyed mancala IRL and am now even more excited to try this :)

Been going for walks in a weighted vest for a while and it's been so nice. It's like the perfect form of exercise for me, just adding extra sauce to something that I already enjoy doing a lot and not having to force myself at all.
