One of my goals for 2026 is to ride every mode of transit from each agency in the ORCA pod. I counted 29 modes after excluding paratransit, school routes, and carpooling/car sharing services.

Sound Transit just published Link ridership data for September 2026. Overall ridership dropped 3% but a South Bellevue and Mercer Island each had a 20% increase in boardings due to the August 29 bus network restructure. Routes 215, 218, 269 now stop at MI and routes 111, 556 now stop at S Bellevue.

About 10,000 passengers board Link at one of the three new station each weekday. Federal Way station is responsible for most of these boardings thanks to its connection to 12 bus routes and a 1,592 space parking garage.

Using new ridership data, I took at look at how the 2 Line impacted the ridership patterns of routes 271, 542, 545, 550, and 554. While most Issaquahians remained loyal to Route 554, many people in Bellevue switched to Link for trips across Lake Washington. seattletransitblog.com/2026/10/26/h...

There are a few updates to the dashboard itself. The interactive plots now resize correctly to fit your screen and the daily plots now show total boardings/alightings for each stop. Also, you can download dataset for each route/service change as a CSV file using the link below the charts.

The only reason e-biking isn't the fastest way around South Seattle is that Rainier ave and MLK Jr Way S are unsafe to bike on, so you have to go super roundabout back ways that have absurd hills.

This is right in Seattle to. There is simply no faster way around central Seattle anywhere near rush hour than an ebike.

More ferry trouble at Kitsap Transit. 2 or 3 of the smaller ‘foot ferry’ boats are down, knocking out the Brem-Annapolis service. The Waterman is just a few years old. The Carlisle II is the oldest working boat on the Puget Sound, build over 100 years ago.

Car tires actually do kill salmon that orcas eat. This is 9 acres of car parking on the shoreline of our city’s most-watched salmon run location. If one were to actually protest (or file an environmental suit) against a city policy on behalf of orcas, why not here?

Route 8 finished September with an 82.2% on-time performance rate. This is the highest monthly on-time percentage for Route 8 since at least January 2019 (the earliest available data).

Route 8’s eastbound on-time performance is on track to exceed 80% in September 2026. This will be the first time eastbound Route 8 trips meet Metro’s 80% on-time goal in at least 7 years.

Everyone deserves to get home safe, and right now too many streets in our city like MLK Jr way S are designed so that people don't get home safely to their loved ones.

Seattle Bike Blog@seattlebikeblog.com

I also think "Get Home Safe" could become a mainstay chant for bike safety protests going forward. It's such a basic message. It reminds everyone of home and the people we love who live there, and how getting to them is more important than any of this "cars vs bikes" wedge issue road rage bullshit.

Just passed the 1,000 mile mark on my new bike at the ballot box. If you haven’t already, vote soon! Vote Yes on Prop 1 for more buses in Seattle 🚌 🚌 🚌 Vote No on all three statewide initiatives

Per SPD: The minivan driver had a medical emergency and drove from the southbound side across the Link tracks to the northbound side. There, they hit two cars. The driver of black car apparently put their car in reverse and backed across the Link tracks to the SB side. The other car just got hit.

I rode the “not officially open yet” 2-way protected bike lanes on South Henderson Street in South Seattle today from east (Seward Park Ave) to west (Chief Sealth Trail). Here’s my footage (downgraded quality to fit on Bluesky) riding the new infrastructure. @rvgreenways.bsky.social

Forgiving infrastructure assumes people make mistakes. A person on a bike who loses their balance and falls shouldn't pay for it with their life just because there was no buffer between them and a vehicle 100 times their weight.

Newly filed documents show that the updated plans for the RapidRide R through the Rainier Valley restore just two stop pairs compared to designs presented this summer. That's unlikely to assuage transit advocates concerned about excessive stop consolidation. www.theurbanist.org/despite-push...

theurbanist.orgDespite Pushback, Updated RapidRide R Plans Include Scant ChangesCompared to plans presented earlier this year laying out how the existing Route 7 would be converted into a RapidRide line, designs released this week only include two new stop pairs. That adjustment ...

In response to feedback about the RapidRide R Line’s proposed stop consolidation, Metro has restored the stops on Rainier at Bayview St and State St/Grand St. No other stops have been changed. This alignment has been sent to King Counth Council for a vote within the next few weeks.

These added stops will help fill in two ½ mile gaps between stops in Mount Baker. Thousands of apartments have opened near the Grand St stop in the past few years. It is great to see that the stop will continue to be served by RapidRide R.

While the Northeast Corridor is electrified between Boston and Washington, DC, some trips continue south past DC. These trains need to swap from an electric locomotive to a diesel locomotive in DC.

I’m spending the next few hours on the Northeast Regional diving into Metro ridership data from the spring and summer. This is the first full service change since the Federal Way Link Extension and the full 2 Line opened. I expect to have seattletransitridership.com updated by the end of the week.

Update on S Henderson St protected bike lanes in South Seattle: I checked them out this morning, & the Toronto style concrete mini jersey barriers & concrete curbs all appear to be complete. The bicycle signals are installed & operating but covered up. I think we’re close to them officially opening!

The much anticipated connection between Route 7 and the 2 Line is not that popular. Only 200 passengers board a Route 7 bus at Judkins Park station each weekday. This is lower than many stops that Metro proposed removing in the RapidRide R project (eg: Andover, Bayview, Charles).

This is a new* connection so ridership will increase over the next few years as more people adjust their routines to take advantage of it. I’m just surprised that the initial ridership is so low.

After riding an Amtrak Airo train last week, boarding an Amfleet train today felt like trip back in time. The Amfleets are a classic, but the Airo trains offer so many minor upgrades that add up to a much nicer ride. I can’t wait to see them on the Northeast Corridor next year.
