Add to cart: 1 This intersection paint job. 1 This traffic signal priority scheme. And oh what the hell, 1 That building.

Tom Flood@tomflood.bsky.social

And the freaking greatest thing I have ever seen: this intersection has a traffic signal that is set by DEFAULT for pedestrians and cyclists, cars have to activate to cross. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

According to the Seattle Times Seattle can’t enforce parking rules because the police want a slush fund/thing to point to when asked how they are saving money? So why did we move parking enforcement from SDOT back to SPD? Maybe we should rethink that. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

seattletimes.comWhy isn’t Seattle hiring parking enforcement officers if they make money? As one of the few revenue-generating city jobs, they should be a budget writer's best friend. Not this year.

We are maybe 3 days from breaking the all-time Fremont bike counter record for October, and there's a chance we could break the all-time annual record by Thanksgiving. We are 87K away and are currently recording an average of 3.8K per day. That rate will decline with cold and rain. Need 2.7K/day.

Breaking the annual record a month early would be amazing. I am very eager to see how many people keep biking through the rainy months this time, because it will probably be another record (so long as it doesn't ice over).

Anti-trans attacks are not a “distraction,” they are a wedge issue! If conservatives are hammering a wedge into your base, you have to fight them off. Ignoring it lets them succeed. They have been doing this my entire life. How can mainstream Dems still not understand how this works?

They are being bigots, trampling the rights and dignity of trans people. They obviously do not give a shit about women’s sports or bathroom usage. Dems can win this issue if they would fight for it because their side is based on nothing and ours is based on justice.

Alki Point Healthy Street Sunny day and a 0.4 mile of car free protection is open for kids of all ages to ride back and forth all day 🚲 The last block finished this week makes it extra long. Good for family members with energy to expend? Plus there is a fun beach to explore!

We literally have the largest bike-touring event in the world which has been an annual summer state tradition for FIFTY YEARS. There's a giant exhibit in the state historical museum about it. This is comical.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

Car tires actually do kill salmon that orcas eat. This is 9 acres of car parking on the shoreline of our city’s most-watched salmon run location. If one were to actually protest (or file an environmental suit) against a city policy on behalf of orcas, why not here?

“Building apartment building for people will kill orcas!” cry disingenuous NIMBYs who don’t want more neighbors. But an actual car garage on 9 acres of waterfront? Not a peep. Interesting!

Recent ideas for how to use the dormant industrial land on the south side of the ship canal: 1: Build autonomous war drone ships. 2: Condos for cars. Perhaps it’s time the city stepped in with a plan that would actually benefit the public.

Condos for cars on the waterway faces no environmental review, but a biking and walking trail nearish the waterway faces decades of review. Make it make sense, Washington State!

Update: I was wrong, there will be a special council meeting on Monday to approve Saka's traffic safety bill and Bob Kettle will be putting forward an amendment to strip out the historic district provisions. Someone tipped off the preservation folks about this so they had more time to organize.

There is no meeting next week on this, and the amendment has already been approved, but sure.

We've needed a homegrown English-language equivalent to the Dutch "Stop de Kindermoord" for a while now and I think "Get Home Safe" is it. Say it sincerely to friends or sarcastically to enemies, it's got powerful "Bless your heart" energy.

Seattle Bike Blog@seattlebikeblog.com

I also think "Get Home Safe" could become a mainstay chant for bike safety protests going forward. It's such a basic message. It reminds everyone of home and the people we love who live there, and how getting to them is more important than any of this "cars vs bikes" wedge issue road rage bullshit.

If you're 72 and you don't want to die in prison, I recommend not doing multiple attempted murders with a deadly weapon in front of people with cameras 🤷‍♂️

Peter Flax@pflax1.bsky.social

This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

SDOT has a great map here that lets you see which neighborhoods are planning Halloween night street closures; currently there are a lot in North Seattle and none showing on the map in the Rainier Valley.

With a couple other stories I have coming, this week is shaping up to be among the saddest ever on Seattle Bike Blog. Our status quo transportation system is so incredibly cruel and unforgiving, and we cannot continue accepting it as normal.

What's happening in Toronto is a turning point of some kind, we just don't know exactly where we will be pointing when it is all over. I'm very proud of everyone putting themselves on the line to make this as difficult as possible for the Ontario government, which needs to pay a political price.

When I heard those Toronto protestors chanting, "Get Home Safe!" to the construction crews who were leaving after they put their bodies in the way to stop further removal of the Bloor Street bike lane, that hit me hard. It's so real. Why is it this hard to make our streets a little safer?

It passed🥳! Here are the very reasonable street management principles the Pike Place Market Constituency adopted tonight. It would astounded normal Seattleites that this remains controversial, and that opponents said it was “similar to Trump’s efforts to tear down the East Wing of the White House” 🤯
