MemBrain v2 is on @natmethods.nature.com now? I never had a @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social with 164 citations before😅 ...Which is also to say: Thank you to the amazing #TeamTomo community, many of whom not only beta tested, but also contributed diverse training data. This one belongs to all of us! 🤗🔬🧪

A wild publishing ride to get here... but finally! (first bioRxiv: January 5th, 2024 🙃) Amazing work from @lorenzlamm.bsky.social and colleagues 🤗 Special thanks to the community who jumped early on the boat, sharing feedback and training data to make MemBrain v2 a reality 🙏🏽

Glad to see this out! Congrats @helenawatson.bsky.social and Victoria, and thanks @eisfabian.bsky.social for the support! Context is key in situ, and making the most out of your hard fought (inc. lifted out) lamella is important. Give BIGSMALL a go!

Preprint 🧵! I’m really excited to introduce BIGSMALL, an interleaved multi-magnification cryo-ET scheme bridging molecular and cellular scales in a single acquisition! BIGSMALL = 𝐁road 𝐈nformation 𝐆athering 𝐒trategy by 𝐌ultiscale 𝐀cquisition of lame𝐋𝐋a www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... (1/6)

The debate around VAR is really something: but let’s remember that the main reason why people advocated for VAR in football was to try to rectify those really mad decisions that that clearly spatially compromised linepersons got wrong. Everything since has just made it a farce. @bbcmotd.bsky.social

Our new preprint is out 🥳🥳🥳 Henipaviruses, like Nipah and Hendra, package their genomes inside helical shells built by thousands of nucleoproteins. These nucleocapsids are essential to protect the viral RNA, but how do they ever let the polymerase in to read the sequence? 👇

We have an open post-doc position in my group to study mRNA cleavage and polyadenylation using biochemical reconstitution and cryoEM. Please get in touch if you are interested in joining this amazing team! 🔬🧬🤩 #RNA #cryoEM

We’re looking for a #postdoc to join Lori Passmore’s group, within a programme aimed at understanding addition of mRNA poly(A) tails More info: www.nature.com/naturecareer... Closes 06 OCT #ScienceJobs #PostdocJobs

And here it is now in print! www.cell.com/cell-reports... With a front cover splash 😍

Proud to share our latest paper. doi.org/10.1016/j.cr... Through the dedication of @glynnca.bsky.social and @cryingem.bsky.social we report a thorough method to image molecular organisation within hippocampus tissue. Structural biology in tissue is well and truly here! @rosfrankinst.bsky.social

So, what's next? In the lab, we are already applying this workflow to different systems and tissues reproducibly. Whatever cell biology questions drive your research, we hope you can implement our approach to gain molecular level insights within the native tissue environment.

Geometry was key - FIBs are flexible! Having the ability to image the dendritic network from alternate perspectives using planar lift out gives us different insights. In this case, molecular variabilities in the microtubule network could be teased out.

Obviously, if you want native proteins the sample needs to be vitreous. It was a heroic effort to establish proper vitreous cryo-fixation, testing many cryoprotectants - lifting out and imaging non vitreous samples is not fun! Here's our blooper reel.
