Composer Austin Wintory was once in talks to make music for Mass Effect 5, and now that EA has shuttered BioWare and canceled the game, he's released his drafts online. https://bit.ly/4evMujI

That's also why I'm partially so vehemently opposed to aye-eye. (Again, if you well actually into my mentions it's blockity block). The tools to actually make stuff and grow are SO accessible. And then they just want to bulldoze all that shit to make their trillionaire yacht mall.
People making those early 3D games? That shit was on industrial workstations that cost like 100k EACH, with software that was just about as expensive. Making creative digital stuff is soooo much more accessible than it used to be.

Ohmigosh. Like. Okay, Godot is literally a free engine that can do production level game dev. Blender is a standard. There's an explosion of creative tools that actual humans can use to make actual human stuff for actual people that we woulda killed for in 1998.
Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?
I think the most revealing thing for me in this article is Ondřej Surý himself is like "yeah bro anyway the current model of open source is unsustainable and it is exploitive of the people who work on it" and. Whew buddy I can only imagine.
70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
This level of petty (and, to be clear, talent) is inspirational.
Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.
I've gotten utterly bombarded by desperate pleas for money and it's like. Yall. Literally all I hear from you is that you need money. Any actual spines? Nothing. We get milquetoast gutless shit. And I stf godzilla if we DO get a Blue Wave and they just write a stern letter I will be PISSED.
Literally fire all the Democratic fundraising consultants and shut down all these fucking companies.

I worked at a community college, a fact increasingly true over 10 years ago. I saw how INCREDIBLY power, transformative, and important education ways. I also saw simultaneously how truly fucked up it could be.
I 100% support education. I do not support education being inaccessible to a majority of the country or the idea that education should leave you in debt for the first half of your life. We need education to be accessible to anyone who wants an education.

Heh. Look I have legacy (Access) database systems in my reporting at work that I just discovered *yesterday* has had something calculating wrong FOR TWENTY YEARS. So I can only imagine what it's like when, uh, actually millions of people use you as infrastructure.
the thing about leftpad is it demonstrates a deeply rotten culture any huge language project can have a serious security flaw that nobody catches for a decade. but nobody had to use leftpad. not one person. there was zero utility to it!
