Long time, no update. This is what I've been up to: Building a tall bike out of junk bicycles I've found on the streets.

Dreamt I was fencing with a woman while the song "What I Am" played in the background The woman had just been fencing against a friend of mine, and she was a cheat and a sore loser. She lost to my friend and was insulting her. When I stepped in to defend my friend, she challenged me to a duel.

My algorithm here broke again and now it only shows me people's pictures of plants. This is actually a huge improvement to this site.

This has been a quixotic quest for no reason other than to see if i could do it, but I did do it: I've created a ceramic circuit board with copper traces that I can solder components to. Here's a little astable multivibrator circuit running on stoneware.

Did you know you can use a Dymo labeler to make a headlight symbol if you're willing to take the labeler partially apart and emboss by hand?

Reminds me of my favorite photo of my grandfather, who was a great guy notwithstanding this depiction:

Thinking about how well a refrigerator could run on solar power alone, without a storage battery. If some space were sacrificed in exchange for thermal mass (jugs of water), how well would it keep things cold from dusk to dawn while it's unpowered? I bet pretty well, if you didn't open the door much

We had gotten pretty efficient at our jobs, but i also kept seeing other stuff i wanted to bring back, like a working typewriter.

We didn't have computers anymore, and i thought a typewriter might be valuable for record keeping. I had to leave it behind though. It was heavy and until we had found a place to settle down, it didn't make sense to have to tote it around.

When we entered a building, we first checked to make sure there was no one living inside, because occasionally we would encounter someone and end up provoking a hostile reaction with our presence. Those people tended to see us as looters.

If no one was living in the building, we would go to the kitchen to look for food like dried rice, beans, pasta, canned vegetables and fruit, etc, and to the bathroom to look for painkillers like NSAIDs and opioids, antibiotics, inhalers, aspirin etc.

We were traveling nomadically, but seeking a place to settle down. I was part of a small scouting team that explored still-standing buildings to look for anything we could use.

People from the team kept instinctively grabbing money, and i kept having to remind them money didn't mean anything anymore, and that we needed to stick to the basics: non-perishable food, and essential medications.

I threw this pot from 15 pounds of clay. That's a new personal record for me (the previous record was 9, yesterday). Throwing this much clay is a lot of effort! That's a big mass of clay you have to center and force into shape. I was sweating.

This mug is made entirely from materials I gathered myself. There isn't a single store-bought or company-supplied ingredient in the clay or glaze. I finally did it!

This post is already extremely replied to, but I love that hatchet, so why not? Here's the ebike I built from a trashed folding bike, a hub motor I found in the river, and a battery pack from an abandoned e-scooter.

This post is unavailable.

I've actually got some plant to update this bike this week by moving the battery pack to the downtube so I regain use of the rear rack, and adding a taillight made out of a tin can to match the headlight made of a tin can. I have the supplies now, so I just need to do it

Reconfigured little DIY ebike. I just need to 3D print a couple of bits, but it works the way it is, and now I have so much more cargo space.

After being tagged numerous times in posts about a feminist hacker collective making clay PCBs, I had a sudden realization two nights ago that I might be able to make conductive, solderable pottery glaze, so I tried it. It worked. Today. I made some prototype ceramic PCBs with a 3D printed stamp

After these are bisque fired, I will glaze them, and then fill the recessed traces with copper powder. If it acts like it did before, I will get a layer of oxidized copper bonded to the glaze that I can then reduce back to metallic copper, which I will be able to solder components to. We will see!

Quick afternoon glazing session in the studio. I put my 100 percent wild-gathered (scavenged) glaze on this wild-clay mug, and did some glazing with studio glazes on this geometric luminary assignment.
