hello devs!! say hi to @atproto.com 👋 we’ll be using this account to share *your projects* that you’re building on top of atproto! the bluesky team also gets into some pretty interesting technical convos deep in the replies, and @atproto.com can broadcast that info further 🗣️

The AT Protocol, or atproto, is a new foundation for social networking which gives creators independence from platforms, developers the freedom to build, and users a choice in their experience. Read more about us here: https://blueskyweb.xyz/blog/10-18-2022-the-at-protocol

some fun bluesky weekend hacking ideas (feel free to steal): - Google alerts for bluesky posts (i.e. get notified when someone posts about X) - Related people search (i.e. embed a user’s name, bio, last N tweets) - Serverless runtime for post sinks (i.e. upload JS snippet, called on every new post)

i didn’t realize how easy it is to build bluesky bots, really neat stuff. maybe i’ll try to do a stream when less busy exploring the protocol more

Here is how to build a bluesky bot powered by ATProto and OpenAI APIs (CC: @keithb.bsky.social @andreitr.bsky.social @jay.bsky.social @pfrazee.com ) - https://ashevat.medium.com/how-to-build-a-bluesky-bot-using-atproto-and-openai-api-77a26a154b

i’m so excited for custom feeds within bluesky. first order of business? block all posts that have greater than 80% semantic similarity to “AI”, “ChatGPT”, etc… bluesky is a happy and wonderful place, and is my only escape from a constant stream of AI stuff. will work hard to keep it that way!

broke: “this is such an expensive query”, “too many joins”, “do we need a covering index?”, “how can we simplify this?” woke: “databases are fast”, “6 joins? fuck it”, “use a bigger machine if it’s slow”

seriously considering starting to wake up at like 4:30am again, i miss the silence of the mornings & the lack of notifications but hard socially, need to find right balance here

no better way to start the morning then hopping into a zoom call with 3 temporal engineers and screen sharing as they rip my code to shreds all jokes aside, was a lot of fun & turns out I know a lot less about temporal than I thought I did
