When Anthropic was created, its co-founders pledged to commit 80% of their personal equity holdings in the company to philanthropic causes. As they prepare to take the company public, they appear to be walking back that pledge.

By making the governing equations dimensionless, it is revealed that the slope is the additional dimensionless parameter introduced by inclusion of the buoyancy terms. The primary new finding is that in general density stratification effects tend to be greater in large,

low-slope rivers than in their smaller, steeper brethren. Under high flow conditions the total suspended load and size distribution of suspended sediment can be significantly affected by density stratification, and should be accounted for in any general theory of suspended transport. ?? ASCE."

Israel does not do ceasefires Ever Independent journalism has been telling corporate journalism this for years and years and absolutely nothing we say can get them to listen or even simply look at the facts in front of their faces Never ever ever ever report that Israel has agreed to a ceasefire

A serial rapist was elected twice as President, a fact we don't reckon with nearly enough. Now one of two major political parties has been molded in his image, run for and by violent sexual abusers who hate women.

The Old Powers of earth are not for men to use. They were never given into our hands, and in our hands they work only ruin. Ill means, ill end. I was not drawn here, but driven here, and the force that drove me works to my undoing.

In my experience, in the mountains, and considering climate change, and no-stationarity, and post-fire sediment transport, the dominant discharge idea is out the window. Relative comparisons are valid. The reaches I work are formed by episodic events. www.researchgate.net/publication/...

I am sure it applies downstream in larger rivers where the question of transport is one we can try to answer. I do not think it applies once you get into mountain streams above 5% average channel slope. All opposing viewpoints are welcome

Dangerous flooding is happening in the Southwest, the Four Corners, and on the Navajo Nation, and all of it may be just a taste of all the El Niño-related precipitation to come in the region.

We are having a special on aged riprap. It was on the mountain and fell in the river and bounced around and rounded the edges. We call it cobble. It comes it natural colors based on the watershed you are in.

The Four Corners just went through a long week of flooding and weather models predict another deep plume of moisture taking aim at the region in the Nov. 1-2 timeframe. This doesn't look like a long-duration event, but saturated soils will be more prone to flooding from even short duration rainfall.

The University of California system was FREE in the 1970s, until then-gov Reagan convinced ppl it should charge tuition - why? Because too many ppl of color were being admitted. Fine for white kids to benefit, but - acc to him and the voters at that time - not Black, Asian and Latino kids.

This. And if most Americans weren't aware of this in 2019, I'd guess they're even less so now. Public university students were paying for a third of the cost of their education in 2009, and it was up to half by 2019. 2009 wasn't great compared to the 60s-70s, either. www.pbs.org/newshour/edu...
