Been working on the studio website! Added a bunch of nice photos by Vitor Sá, a releases section, an FAQ page, and new audio samples.
I'm available for both in studio and remote projects, so get in touch if you want your music to sound really good for not much money!

Yesterday I teamed up with a videographer friend to produce some Audiotree-style live in the studio videos with two of my favorite local bands!
Feeling excited and tired (as usual after a big session)
I'm playing my electro acoustic Tanglewood on this, with some solo picking too. There's 1 lead vocal and 11 harmony parts.
Mix/mastering by James @mountainsize.bsky.social who worked on all 10 songs, sometimes also drumming, tambourining, conga-ing and cowbelling.

And finally, track 10 on Loss Lines is 'Fin':

Not a proper song, but I always throw in something short and/or weird at the end of an album. It's a signal it's over, but looking back at all 4 albums, it seems to be a fairly good mental health temperature check each time.
Fun fact: I used two different ring modulator instances on Lara’s chopped up vocal and blended between them with automation.
I rarely use ring modulation because it flat out sounds weird, but that’s exactly why I used it to make one of many vocal layers sound less like a vocal.
There are 16 vocal parts. I created two of them from interim breaths, either played normally or in reverse. The percussive thud comes from James @mountainsize.bsky.social boosting the low frequencies in these tracks.
Key lyric:
"Yes it hurts to talk about it
Who might you have been without it?"

Nearly there! Track 9 on Loss Lines is 'Hurts'. I like to stick an a cappella piece in where I can. It stops me complaining about not being able to hear the vocals.
It's a heavy trauma dump of a song, which I have cunningly offset with this muppet gif.

Had a studio session on the books today but rescheduling to next month due to the weather.
After a late night running live sound last night, I’m okay with taking the day off 😴
Still wanging on about Loss Lines, track by track? Yes I am. Track 8 is 'Leave me', and a prickly, sad thing it is, too.
It's about experiencing a (temporary) intolerance of company, cheerfulness and attempted distraction in a time of loss ('don't laugh, don't smile').

I should be paid a dollar every time an app or website pesters me to let it cram some superfluous A.I. feature down my throat, and five dollars if I've previously dismissed that nag prompt
Go to your local library, borrow their CDs and rip them to your laptop. Or hell, just hang out there and rip what you want and then go home. Your tax dollars already paid for it.
The same company that doesn't pay artists seems to always find the money to pay this jackass.
If you're still using Spotify... why?
Pretty much every alternative is better in every way.
Broke guy tip: find a bank that does zero interest balance transfers and do it for credit cards with a high balance. After the year of zero interest is up, transfer it somewhere else if you haven’t fully paid it off yet.
Repeat as necessary. No reason to throw away money at credit card interest.
On to track 7 of Loss Lines, which is a cover of Ben Kweller's 'Problems'.
This is my second cover of this song, so I hereby promise not to do a third one. This time it's got a full band sound and a 60s hand-clapping feel.

Ey up. Track 6 on Loss Lines is 'It's coming back', a song about karmic retribution.
A life lived entirely selfishly at the expense of those around you has gotta have consequences, right? Not always the case for certain powerful dick'eads, but we'll see 👀🍿

Greetings! Track 5 on Loss Lines is 'Standing in your own way', my poor mental health song.
It's loosely about being in the grip of obsessive behaviours, which can intensify with age. If you know, you know...
Listen on Bandcamp or pretty much anywhere else

Ran outdoor live sound for Brewstock music festival aaaallll day yesterday. My first festival FOH gig, sounded great and we kept everything on time somehow!?
Helped that we had multiple stagehands and a dedicated monitor mix engineer. Just a bit easier than doing everything myself!
Learned and tracked two high energy hard rock/metalcore songs on drums today. Nothing toooo difficult but it takes time to learn the parts and energy to play convincingly, and always more of both than I expect.

Track 4 on Loss Lines is my favourite, but also a little hard to talk about 😬
Light-touch version incoming! 'Failure to progress' is a term describing a labour that isn't developing fast enough, or at all. It's bad enough to spend 5 days in this state without that label...

Track 3 on Loss Lines is 'The body says no', whose repetitive guitars attempt to replicate the plodding frustration of chronic illness. It was partly inspired by my reaction to Gabor Maté's 'When the Body Says No' and its links between life experience and physical illness.

Bonjour! Chaotic track 2 on Loss Lines is 'Funny bizarre'. This is a reflection on what it is to be a little girl who wants to grow up and then a big girl who kinda wants to grow back down.

Yet another killer song by Asheville NC pop punk band Drowning Leo! As usual, the band tracked live at the studio, and then we overdubbed guitars and vocals.
Sonically, it’s bouncy and upbeat. Lyrically? Well, let's just say I was adamant about joining in on the gang vocals for this one.
Morning! I'm going to start my usual rundown of each album track, this time for the newly released 'Loss Lines'.

Chaotic track 1 'He's got other problems' is about a bad boss. Office side eyes! Rude jokes! Bad tempers! And a huge personality clash.

Ran live sound yesterday and it was my first outdoor gig where the sun wasn’t beating down on me the entire time! Nice overcast weather made everything a lot more bearable.

You can now listen to Loss Lines wherever you get your music. YOU ARE WELCOME.
Hope you find something to enjoy in among the 9 NTB songs and 1 Ben Kweller cover (sort of a cover of my own cover 🤷♀️)
Audio clip is from track 4 'Failure to progress'.

I highly recommend James for drumming, editing, mixing, mastering. But mostly for cowbell 🐮🔔
I've chosen to keep torturing, I mean working with, James on an upcoming EP called Cowbell Riddims (just kidding).
Do consider @mountainsize.bsky.social for your musical projects!
In early 2026, UK artist @neverthebridle.bsky.social had me lay down drums and mix a song. And then another. And then another! A few months later, we wound up with an album full of songs that are very fun to listen to, despite the often heavy subject matter.

Given the nature of two different drummers tracking at different times (and in my case, on different drum kits), we didn't go for the type of sonic consistency you'd typically hear on an album, and instead treated each song as its own entity.
As an aside, I’m pleased to report that I used all three of my cowbells on this record.
My roles:
- Mixing engineer
- Mastering engineer
- Editor
- Drum performance (tracks 2, 6, 7)
- Percussion performance

The freshly released album by @neverthebridle.bsky.social is pretty awesome. Her ability to wrap seriously uncomfortable or even painful topics in a fun and rockin' sound is working so very well here.
I'll have to get this tomorrow! 😁
Highly, highly recommended!
Early release day for Loss Lines, exclusively for Bandcamp and SoundCloud listeners!
Hit play for happy-sounding songs about sad, awkward or difficult things. I played everything but drums on this and now I am tired! Out everywhere else 4 Sept ⚡

My new album Loss Lines is coming out in a few days because I've listened enough and now it's your turn! Here's a clip of the opening track: 'He's got other problems'. (He really does, trust me.)
