NES Works/Segaiden video and book producer; Retronauts co-host. Speaks the binary programming language of moisture vaporators. I did not invent the word "Metroidvania," and my opinions don't represent those of my employers. He/him. Header pic: Sonya Yruel.

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

I can't believe he's still at it, it's been days

Sometimes I’m almost willing to believe that the noisy integration of gambling into every facet of American life is just a way to allow Trump to consummate his lifelong love of running casinos into bankruptcy by bankrupting the biggest casino ever, the USA

Scoop from @brettlogiurato.bsky.social: CBS has sold its local election night coverage to DraftKings, stirring more controversy inside the David Ellison-owned company. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/cbs-draftk...

Part of my literal job is to fly out to physical game studios to rescue and recover historical materials that might be endangered and put them in a permanent archive. @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social is a 501(c)3 publicly funded to do that, my DMs are open, and I'm free for the next couple weeks...

My favorite BioWare memory isn't a game, it's interviewing the Doctors at GDC 2008. Rather than talk up their own work, they wanted to gush about Eternal Sonata—how someone turned their Chopin obsession into an RPG. Their excitement over using games for personal expression seems extra poignant today

There is, however, joy over on Patreon. Joy Van, I mean. Along with an extremely surface-level overview of both Taiwan's history across the 20th century and NES/Famicom games in Taiwan (licensed and—in the case of Metal Fighter here—unlicensed): www.patreon.com/gamespite/po...

It's my great pleasure to give a long overdue progress update on our fully human-translated and human-coded English patch for the legendary Tokimeki Memorial 2!

Holy smokes! My presentation is in 15 minutes!!

In order to ensure that you are sufficiently hyped about my @retrogamingexpo.bsky.social presentation about bad NES games tomorrow, here is the presentation I gave last year in which I celebrated the NES's 40th anniversary by talking about all of its competitors youtu.be/XabGS917ing

We are exploring the possibility of swapping slots so that tomorrow’s Retronauts panel at @retrogamingexpo.bsky.social and my NES Works panel on Sunday trade places. Who knows how it will shake out! The only way to be sure is to attend BOTH presentations

Bobsession@bobservo.bsky.social

ATTENTION @retrogamingexpo.bsky.social attendees! Air Canada suddenly canceled my flight, and it looks like i won't be able to make it to PRGE in time for the @retronauts.bsky.social panel tomorrow at 11am. i'm currently exploring my options, so don't give up hope!

An elderly man cruising down the street on his Rascal saw me getting out of my car tonight and ZOOMED over to talk to me. He saw I was driving a Mazda MX-5 and wanted to gush about how much he loved his RX-7 in the ’80s. I feel bad that I'm not a Car Guy, but it was charming. This neighborhood rules

I think it's beautiful that Sega has chosen to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Retronauts by repeating the same amateur mistake that almost killed the podcast (engaging in real time with the entirety of the Sonic fanbase). This official Discord is 100% the 2026 version of the Sonic call-in episode

I actually literally do not think they realize what they've done here. Sonic isn't just a game with fans. It's basically embedded in the fabric of the internet. Since I clicked the link ten minutes ago, two THOUSAND more people joined. And it only has five channels to post in and four moderators.

"Spot the difference between these two pictures." "There is no difference."

NBA 2K12 was released 15 years ago today. Retronauts is 20 years old today. The equivalent of NBA 2K12 for episode 1 of Retronauts would have been Mario the Juggler, Nintendo's final Game & Watch title, which debuted in October 1991. I have no point here. It's just an interesting observation

Chris Johnston, aka “CJ”@superpac.bsky.social

Streamer saying “I like to play retro games on the weekend.” He’s talking about playing NBA 2K12.

today marks a whopper of an anniversary as we released the very first episode of Retronauts on October 4, 2006. Twenty years of podcasts! Thank you for listening for two entire decades. What's your favorite episode or Retronauts memory?
