Depressing election results country-wide but given the strong Green & Lib-dem votes in Oxford do you think we will see a bit less whingeing and whining from the “silent majority” pro-traffic lobby??

The only people who will benefit from this are the owners of the gas field and rigs. The exchequer will get some tax money but not much. More jobs and economic growth would be created by funding a push for heat pumps and phasing out gas altogether. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cw...

bbc.co.ukJackdaw updates: UK government approves drilling in gas fieldThe government says the move will "heat millions of homes" and protect jobs, while environmentalists argue it will hamper efforts to cut planet-warming carbon emissions.

Using "job creation" as a justification for fossil fuel extraction is morally bankrupt. Ultimately renewables need fewer people to look after them so we need to move those jobs somewhere else. Somewhere actually useful.

Are there *any* cycling bridges in the UK?

Dutch Cycling Embassy@dutchcycling.nl

Why do cycle bridges matter? Cycle bridges create safe, direct routes for people on bikes, especially across busy roads, railways, or waterways. They remove conflict points with motor traffic, reducing the risk of collisions and making cycling more enjoyable for everyone.

If we want to facilitate local journeys by bicycle the best tool is Low Traffic Neighbourhoods @richmondcycling.bsky.social @alexanderehmann.bsky.social

Campaigners say “the reduction in rat-running traffic means it is safer for people to walk, wheel or cycle to the shops or the bus stop. That’s visible in the data, and in the people you meet in the streets.” road.cc/news/ltn-oxf...

Farage says there’s no room for racism in his party. Is that in the same way there’s no room for another sardine in a tin of sardines?

With our kids now #BackToSchool, never forget that we ARE the traffic that we’re afraid of. If more kids walked, biked or rode transit to school, it would erase a LOT of car trips each day, and our kids would be safer, healthier and better at school as a result. HT Ian Lockwood. Spread the word.

Remember when Farage led the anti ULEZ Ultra Low Emission Zones campaign ... "Since when has Reform been remotely concerned about the health and well-being of British children? Of course less pollution results in better health outcomes for all people, particularly children" via St Helens Resistance

A reminder: 🚗: I hope I find parking. 🚴🏽‍♂️: I hope I don’t die. Our priorities are not the same.

Trigger warning, parenting: An Associate Professor in Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government points out that modern family life depends increasingly on two full-time incomes, but there's an underlying assumption that one parent is permanently available. www.ox.ac.uk/news/2026-07...

So let me get this straight: Fartage said he needed £1m a year to cover "lost" earnings if he was to stand for parliament. Suddenly £5m appears in his bank account as a "gift". Should people have a problem with that? What a man of the people! www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

theguardian.comRevealed: Farage’s £5m gift came after saying he needed ‘a million a year’ to stand as MPPolitician spoke to senior figures in Reform in March 2024 about covering lost earnings, sources tell the Guardian

Nigel Farage is not the most verbally and physically attacked MP ever. Jo Cox and David Amiss would have something to say about that but they’re DEAD Oh and Sadiq Khan is the politician who has had the most threats against his life

“Where did the traffic go? Much of it wasn’t needed”

Utrecht is an amazing work in progress - always something to improve and adjust which shows that it's OK for things not to work perfectly with every project, but you need to work to a plan. Where did all the traffic go? Much of it wasn't needed.
