Hell yeah! Translating into terms creepy old men will understand: school closures will sabotage Portland’s ✨renaissance✨. Every gear of our local government should be aimed at growing Portland and making our governance structure support that growth - from schools to tax systems. Go, Mitch, go!

Councilor Mitch Green@councilorgreen.bsky.social

Over the last several days I've heard directly from parents who are scared and outraged about the PPS proposals for closure of their schools. They are calling for action from their elected officials at all levels. Today I have filed an emergency that responds to the urgency of these calls. 🧵

anyone in the Portland biking/walking/transit community interested in hacking together a camera + speed detector system we can rotate through dangerous locations? I’ve witnessed so much speeding and so many close calls sitting in my front porch and I’d like to have data to hand to PBOT

Fellow parents, the spookiest thing about this spooky season is that DST ends / we fall back an hour the Saturday night of Halloween 👻 This madness must end. Make DST permanent.

Build the housing, run the buses, metaphorically and literally make room to welcome red state refugees into big blue cities

I'm not sure if she's aware of it but this 2022 @rebeccajtiffany.bsky.social tweet is basically an article of faith at @liberalcurrents.com ( @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com quoted it in www.liberalcurrents.com/feminism-wit... and I've referenced it countless times ever since)

Implementation & diffusion of general purpose technologies always takes longer than boosters expect because taking full advantage of the new affordances requires transforming institutions, skillsets & protocols—& those things are hard/slow to change. Consider electricity: www.bbc.com/news/busines...

bbc.comWhy didn't electricity immediately change manufacturing? The internet shows, as with electricity, that real technological change takes time and imagination.

Portland’s law enforcement organization is what we might euphemistically call truth-challenged

Updated information shows PPB killed the man and the dog. Absolutely shameful how some media talked about this man’s life like it was an afterthought, and unquestioningly put out copaganda.

The owner of Flying Fish says the City of Portland is forcing him to take down a tent for covered seating that’s on the parking lot on the property. He says a replacement permanent structure would cost $100K. Anyone know on what grounds the City is doing this? www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/...

indiegogo.comFlying Fish Patio Project by Flying Fish Company LLC Portland, Oregon - IndiegogoFlying Fish Company in Portland Oregon is being forced to build a permanent patio structure. We need your help to cover the $100,000 cost.

It looks like the City received a complaint about unpermitted structures. They’ve got three tents on their property. Who complains about this? Why do tents require permits? Why can’t we find the smallest necessary remedy, if one is needed?

This is not funny, Terry only speaks like this when he’s very distressed

This is unbelievable. FPDR governance is a complete disaster. The Mayor needs to ask for some resignations and then reconstitute the whole Board. He also needs to insist on some changes in staff leadership. Council should demand it. Council should also begin looking at charter changes.

it speaks volumes that Oliveira is the DCA who’s surviving the Wilson administration, especially given how things have gone with his portfolio: PHB, Prosper, Moda, Zenith, Arts Tax, and the collapse of housing production

Folks, I'm closing up shop here for a while. My focus is going to be hyperlocal while we expect to welcome two new kiddos earthside in the coming days. Take care of each other, and leave your spaces better than you found them. ✌️

Oregonians need to be prepared for secession, and Oregon's leaders need to be recruiting other blue states to leave with us. The Heritage Foundation, which published Project 2025, says Oregon should be denied federal representation, based on bad-faith arguments about our mail-based voting system.

Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.

RFK Jr. just said that immigration is to blame for the outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in the U.S., not him.

My THREE year-old just looked at me and said, "Okay, old man," with a mischievous grin on his face. THREE. Interesting move for someone who's getting not one but two competitors for title of favorite child next week.

Gonna spend the next two years spamming every elected Dem about the concept of "damnatio memoriae." Chisel his name off every inscription. Build over the various Trump Towers like they're Nero's Golden House. Remove him from physical memory, not to forget but as a sign of disrespect to the man.

A lot of posts today re-re-rediscovering things that have been obvious for a decade: National political media won’t think critically. They’re stunted by access. Republicans invented “originalism” to give them the power to remake the country. When will we stop discovering and start countering?
