Yes. Someone I know from dog walking and who has irritated me in the past said this to her partner when he started talking to me about Blair and austerity this week. Last time I met him the conversation was about immigration (as it often is when people meet me.) before that, Brexit. He starts it.

If there was a rank order of improvements, smoking restrictions would be near the top. Smoking was everywhere - in pubs, public transport, workplaces, doctors smoked on duty, TV presenters lighted up on election specials..

Man came up to me at a public meeting on a completely unrelated subject last night, referenced his own Guardian letter on English ethnicity; said it was a very important topic and then quizzed me about 2021 Census ethnicity classifications. Wondering why this was his opening conversational gambit.

I remember the email storms at both IBM and HP caused by someone in a nondescript office somewhere in the world sending a silly message (like has anyone seen my pencil) to a company-wide distribution list. People immediately started replying, to all. Some (replying to all) said stop replying to all!

I don’t see why everyone is so shocked. The whole point of Reform/Restore etc has always been to empower and embolden racists and xénophobes, egged on by gleeful journos with a sensationalist story to write and nothing to lose.
