*Whispers* Someone could really use an Aaron Wiggins right about now....

Jeff Brack@jeffbrack.bsky.social

The biggest problem is that we're 3 games in and there will be other injuries. They'll have to make a move for wing depth. SGA, Mitchell, McCain, Caruso, Topic, Stirtz isn't enough to get through the year.

Well, this proper sucks. Two starters down, one of whom is a high level All-Star, the other a near $30 million player. The Thunder are deep, but even for them, this is absolutely gutting.

BREAKING: Oklahoma City's Jalen Williams has a dislocated left ankle and fractured fibula; Cason Wallace has a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Both will undergo surgery and be sidelined for several months -- most, if not the entire season.

Yves Missi: Out indefinitely. Cooper Flagg: Out indefinitely. Jalen Williams: Out indefinitely. Paolo Banchero: 4-6 weeks. Jalen Duren: 2 weeks. Jalen Suggs & Ivica Zubac: Injured. Rough start, health-wise, for the league.

Oh good heavens, just saw the J-Dub injury. That is just brutal. He's been rocked by injuries these last two years. Really hope he recovers fully. That looked awful.

Bulls lost by 43 and Blazers won by 41

Tiago Splitter's new team losing by 40 and old team winning by 40 on opening night would be quite a hoot

For the uninitiated: Mexico City sits at over 7,300 feet (2.2 kilometers) above sea level. For comparison, Denver is just under 5,300 and Salt Lake City slightly over 4,300. Under no circumstances should this be considered a small, insignificant factor that the league can just sweep away.

I just completed a thorough re-watch of the entire DC Zack Snyder era catalogue. It completely blows my mind that they pulled the cord on the whole thing. There was so, so much potential there that was utterly wasted.

I might be in trouble. I'm 40 and divorced, which means I'm also 40 and single. I had, at least, four arrangements with women from my teens, that if we were both single at 40, we'd marry. ... What a marriage slut I was, good lord. (I have no recollection of who they were, which is even worse.)

As @btoporek.bsky.social has been bringing up in our podcasts recently: It's ridiculous that expansion franchises will have to operate with a smaller cap percentage than everyone else, especially since the cap will be freaking PEANUTS compared to the franchise fee.

If I'm Detroit, I'm very much living with Duren on the QO. Good player. All-Star center. Elite rebounder. Not easily replaceable, but replaceable.

Shams Charania Tweets@shamsbot.bsky.social

All-NBA center Jalen Duren is not attending Detroit Pistons media day Monday nor the start of training camp, declining the team’s five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed offer in restricted free agency so far, sources tell ESPN. The sides remain at a stalemate ahead of Thursday deadline on a

Over $360 million for two players who both struggle to make a jumper. That's, uh, something.

Shams Charania Tweets@shamsbot.bsky.social

Just in: Detroit Pistons All-Defensive forward Ausar Thompson has reached agreement on a five-year, $155 million rookie-scale contract extension, sources tell ESPN.

Oh. I like this.

Shams Charania Tweets@shamsbot.bsky.social

The Denver Nuggets are signing 2023 first-round pick Cam Whitmore on a two-way NBA deal, sources tell ESPN. Whitmore enters his fourth NBA season after averaging 10.5 points and 3.3 rebounds over 119 career games -- and has already joined the Nuggets for workouts in Denver.

Paying off of one good year is always a risk. But in this case, and at that cost, I'm inclined to like this one.

Shams Charania Tweets@shamsbot.bsky.social

Just in: Utah Jazz guard Keyonte George has agreed on a five-year, $157.5 million rookie-scale contract extension with the franchise, sources tell me and @BannedMacMahon.

A few years ago, that lineup could have probably won 20 games.

Tony East@tonyreast.bsky.social

Bruce Brown, James Wiseman, Drew Eubanks, John Konchar, and Ochai Agbaji is a wildly impressive group of Ex9 guys for the Knicks.

I've covered the league for the duration of Taj's career, and have only ever heard incredible things about his character. Based on that, and the high IQ he showcased on the floor, I imagine his coaching career could go enormously far.

Shams Charania Tweets@shamsbot.bsky.social

After 17 NBA seasons, Taj Gibson is retiring and returning to the Chicago Bulls as an assistant coach under Tiago Splitter to begin his coaching career.

The Heat should give him a look. He's not a natural floor leader, but he could probably crack that backcourt rotation.

Michael Scotto@mikeascotto.bsky.social

The Atlanta Hawks have waived Devin Carter, league sources told @hoopshypeofficial.bsky.social. The 24-year-old guard averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes during 38 games played for the Sacramento Kings last season.

25 years ago, I came home from school and turned on the television to see the absolute horrors of the attacks. Just hours later, I went to an introductory meeting about attending high school in the US. Needless to say, I never went. Fear took hold, and plans were changed. I still regret it.

I flat out failed to realize just how good of a year Tre Jones had last season. I'm generally skeptical of the Bulls, but if they play this right, all three of Jones, Powell & Claxton could fetch something nice at the trade deadline.

The more I'm doing my pre-season roster analysis, the more convinced I am the Spurs are gearing up for a major consolidation trade. They're completely loaded 1-through-4. Fox, Castle, Harper, Vassell, Champagnie, Johnson, Harris, Bryant, Barnes. Something's gotta give.

This. Have many thoughts about some roster construction tendencies we're seeing these days, which I -uh - don't quite agree with.

trilliemcginest.bsky.social@trilliemcginest.bsky.social

Yep, in both cases you have to build the offense around them to utilize their talents, but neither are good enough to warrant being the focal point on a team. Plus you also have to build the defense around covering for them.

Generally speaking, I find a lot of issues with Houston these days. While I love the skill set of Alperen Şengün, him being both a weak floor spacer, and defender - although improved - I just don't find their current roster spending all that enticing. (It's the Sabonis problem all over again.)

Morten Stig Jensen@msjnba.bsky.social

I get the "They got him on the non-max extension" argument, and I'll buy into it, at least to some degree. That said, if his jumper doesn't come around, this could look SOUR in a few years. I'm not skeptical, necessarily, but I don't think this is as big a slam dunk for Houston as it's presented.

Just in: Houston Rockets' Amen Thompson has agreed to a five-year, $208 million rookie-scale contract extension with the franchise, sources tell ESPN. The new deal includes a 10% trade kicker.

The hammer came down, as it should. Had the league gone soft on this, it obviously would have been impossible to close Pandora's Box. I do enjoy when the NBA dares to actually wear their big boy pants.

People flip on the TV, and take whatever is being presented as gospel, for whatever reason. Take Colin Cowheard & Stephen A. They're *routinely* wrong on NBA matters, but they're big names, so their "insights" are immediately embraced. People lack real, genuine alternatives.

esodario.bsky.social@esodario.bsky.social

It’s really your own fault if you watched that crappy show or most fox sports broadcasts. Just awful. Terrible talent all around

Feedback needed. Instead of a TV, I'm looking for a projector. But need the good shit. Not a $200 Temu version. Budget is roughly $3000, and I need something that runs a high frame rate, and will not lose a lot of light during the day.

"Find a punishment Ballmer will accept". Uh. "Hey, you who stole that car. What type of punishment would you accept?"

J.E. Skeets@jeskeets.bsky.social

"There is a growing belief now, with reporting that the investigation is in fact over and the league is sifting through its findings, that the main delay will now stem from trying to find a punishment Ballmer will accept." bit.ly/3U4PFaC

This week, we started our first of two conference previews for the 2026-27 NBA regular season with Yahoo Sports' @msjnba.bsky.social , taking a deep dive into how the West may pan out -- and how it could impact Boston. Check it out!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the most authentic in the franchise, in terms of staying true to the character. The movie relies on far less suit-CGI that in earlier movies, and Peter's character shines brighter than ever. This is prime Spidey, and they fucking NAILED it.

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.
