Really excited for this - especially because my teen is more likely to read print subscriptions left around the house than any links I text over. Union members: get on it!

Compelling new calculator, and useful to be able to look up the specifics for my university (and other locations). We can meet the needs of our communities, and instead are paying for the horror of immigration enforcement.

You're paying $2,358 in federal taxes for Trump's mass deportations. @epi.org 's new calculator shows what your community could have instead www.epi.org/deportation-...

I've known Weldon for almost 20 years, seeing him weekly on my way to band practice. When I was pregnant and then not around for a bit, he welcomed me back and asked about my kid. Still does, 13 years later. The Mayor of DUMBO! All support much appreciated. gofund.me/153b78b47

Those who have been operating as his financial safety net for the past 2 years are asking for help from our networks to assist with food and housing expenses over the next few months as we work to get him enrolled in the programs he needs.

More details as a thread: Weldon has been integral to the local DUMBO community in Brooklyn for many years and has always looked out for everyone. In recent years, Weldon has fallen on very hard times and many of us in community, including RMO have been trying to find ways to support him.

After much effort and bureaucratic hurdles, Weldon is now getting Social Security again, but because of his lack of ID, it has been very hard to get him food stamps, Medicare and Medicaid, all of which he is eligible for.

Paid sick leave mandates did not moderate exposure to a points system or the association between exposure to points systems and presenteeism, suggesting that points-based attendance systems may undermine the public health goals of paid sick leave mandates.

To reduce presenteeism in jurisdictions with paid sick leave mandates, outreach to workers and employers and stronger enforcement efforts may be needed. Many thanks to @abetterbalance.org for their collaboration on the questionnaire module and work on this issue.

We found that exposure to a points system was associated with an 18.9-percentage-point increase in presenteeism, with effects observed even among workers who had not incurred points.

On May Day (Friday) I'll be sharing research about older workers and learning from scholars (incl. @janetgornick.bsky.social) focused on improving conditions of older adults at the New School. Importantly, the Leave Module was last conducted in 2017/18, before many new state leave policies came into effect. Release of a new module has been delayed by the administration, leaving researchers without the data we need to assess how well these policies are reaching older workers today.

Our findings suggest that access to paid leave declines with age, and that shifts to part-time work may play a role in declining access. To meet the needs of an aging workforce, policymakers should ensure that access to paid leave policies extends to part-time workers.

This is a great action to take, today and every day. Trans friends of all ages: my life would not be the same without you.

New Yorkers deserve solutions that meaningfully address hate violence — not political theater & half-measures. Instead of voting to pass unserious & anti-democratic “buffer zone” bills, @council.nyc.gov should invest $26-30 million in evidence-based non-carceral hate violence prevention. Read why:

nydailynews.comEnding violence, not buffer zones, protects JewsNew York’s Jewish community faces two very different visions of safety.

We collect tons of data with public funds, and it's often under-leveraged because of limited internal capacity to fully analyze it and sharing restrictions. We could be learning so much more if more datasets were made publicly available. Open data is a huge opportunity to maximize these investments.

NY's TDI program's insufficient, outdated funding creates huge inconsistencies with the paid family leave program. If you need it for yourself you get $170/week, but if your family member has the same injury or condition you can receive >$1200/week. It's long past time to reconcile these policies.

A Better Balance@abetterbalance.org

New York's paid medical leave program lags far behind other states – meaning countless New Yorkers must survive off $170/week when they're too sick or injured to work. NY leaders must reform TDI and bring the state into the 21st century. Learn more: www.abetterbalance.org/new-yorkers-...

Good timing for thr snow day: NYC expands paid sick leave coverage.

A Better Balance@abetterbalance.org

As of yesterday, NYC workers have stronger paid sick time rights! Now, the city's law covers paid sick time for childcare, emergency-related closures, housing- and benefits-related legal proceedings, workplace violence, and more. Learn more: www.abetterbalance.org/local-victor...

Our paper reflecting on 30 years of Medicaid estate recovery is fully out today! We shed light on policy mechanisms, state variation, and its potential to drive wealth disparities. Thank you to @jhppl.bsky.social for being the perfect home for our work on this understudied, but longstanding, policy.

@aspishakthomas.com @emmasandoe.bsky.social & @heatherhhoward.bsky.social examine Medicaid estate recovery. Some states recently initiated policy changes to address problems with Medicaid estate recovery, and the authors evaluate the impact of these policies. read.dukeupress.edu/jhppl/articl...
