Academics: it's time to call a stop to this ever escalating rinsing of profit from your unpaid labour. Choose community owned journals where possible!

Ben Williamson@benpatrickwill.bsky.social

Editors of journals published by Taylor & Francis - hi! - may be alarmed to learn there is an emerging view T&F will get bought by private equity after Informa announced it's dropping it. And we know what private equity does to its acquisitions. Guts them. As if academic publishing wasn't bad enough

Listening to this episode right now, very fun!

🎙️ Today on Regression to the Mean Girls @sarahlotspeich.bsky.social & I chat with @mattansb.msbstats.info about a marshmallow test (no, not that one!) This ep has everything! Bayesian models! Food science! A twist at the end! Listen wherever you listen to podcasts!

Ireland is facilitating ICE to undertake horrifically violent and in some cases likely illegal third-country deportations.

Gillian Brockell@gillianbrockell.com

Overnight, this ICE flight operated by Journey Aviation made fuel/crew stops in Ireland and Albania and is now headed east. Likely headed for Central Asia removal stops, there made be third-country nationals onboard.

@swip-i.bsky.social needs a student rep! Come join a sound and welcoming committee of philosophers (and philosophy-adjacent ppl like me). We're currently thinking about our next conference theme so it's a fun time to get involved! #philosophy #earlycareer #swip #ireland

Public health researchers (like myself) want to take an upstream view of obesity, focusing on environmental factors rather than individual behaviour. In this talk, I argue this is not possible with obesity. Whether we like it or not, obesity just IS an individual and moralised concept.

Would love to mobilise a load of women to comment "who??? How is this news??" under posts about footballers or whatever aul lads care about as revenge, but the reality is that women typically have better things to be doing

Got an idea for a paper in the oul top drawer? Sure you might as well write up an abstract for our SWIP Ireland annual conference. Deadline on Monday. (And just to reassure everyone, it's not just for women, people of all genders are very welcome!)

A weekly reminder that our Annual Conference is still open for submission. Send us your abstract before the 15th of September. All the info at: www.swip-ireland.com/events

There is nowhere safe to go in Gaza. Israeli forces have ordered thousands of Palestinians in Gaza City to evacuate as the military prepares another major assault. States should act to prevent genocide in Gaza and press Israel to reverse course.

Lol, you know you're Irish when ... you're all confused watching a TV show or film until you realise you're supposed to be assuming the British spies/soldiers/cops the good guys. Also the immersion, Mass, etc, hahaha lol.

It has been almost two years since Hamas led the deadliest attack on Israel in the country’s history. Not a single person has been charged or prosecuted for it, and the entire subject is shrouded in secrecy.

This is so bad. This will be used to make profit. This will be used by private insurance companies. This will be used for advertising. And shitty studies. No chance that this will help patients

Interesting comparison of how different 'crises' are framed. Kathrin Lauberet al. "(Re)acting (to) the crisis: A comparative analysis of crisis framing in obesity, climate change, antimicrobial resistance, and the UK cost-of-living crisis" journalhosting.ucalgary.ca/index.php/jc...

sure, Adobe updated every 15 minutes, but the pdf reader worked fine for years ... until, of course, they added AI (dis)functionality. Opening a basic text document in 2025 should not feel as messy and bloaty as pirating music in 2003, but here we are.

Once again, the RSA's idea to task citizens with responsibility for road safety seems unhelpful when we have no role in road design and very little influence on the regulation or enforcement of road traffic offences.
