There's a really cheap gym in my area and I do need to start weightlifting for my back thing, so I was THIS CLOSE to signing up with them, the sale was in the bag, and what do I see as their display image on social media only the porniest stock image of a woman "stretching" so actually fuck them

All their on-site photos only show male clients, which I was willing to overlook (if I was a client I would not let them take my photo, I can see other women feeling the same) but now I feel like there's probably a different reason for that

The nights are getting dark and gloomy but there are four Sketchbook Club sessions in November to brighten things up. These are guided drawing sessions for adults, in English, all around Brussels. The art can be bad but the company's always good! Tickets: selkiesstudio.com/sketchbook-club

The real unfair competition women are being forced into with men is having women's sports constantly separated off as a distinct event which is made to compete commercially with much better funded and socially and institutionally enfranchised men's sporting events & found inadequate by that standard

I was running around like a fool yesterday to try get a ball of wool in time so I could continue my knitting during my flight tomorrow and just realised...they don't let you take knitting needles on plane do they

My cousin changed her surname when she got married earlier this year and still now when her photos pop up on Instagram I'm like who is this random stranger posting pictures of my gal who is this oh tis herself

Something nice about being included in the Instagram Close Friends of people I haven't seen in a few years and getting to see their lil babies they don't post publicly

Relieved and honoured to have been assessed and found safe & deserving of an update on how chubby Baby Clíodhna is x

My hairdresser friend says the annoying little strands ruining my days is not breakage but actually new growth! Yussss!!

It's gale force winds here today and the wind is whistling off the side of the building so loudly it's making me ratty I actually feel like I'm in a crowd of people all talking to me at once you know that feeling

I have also done these for birthday parties and once for a graduation but for some reason people only put out the call for help when it's a wedding

No TDs should be allowed on the Internet until they can pass basic social media stress tests. I'm being 100% serious. We can't afford ministers making decisions after getting piled on on social media cause theyve rotted their brains and connection with real people by spending too much time on twittr

Now that it's Sally Rooney I'm glad we're all on the same page about a certain paramilitary-funding state being no authority whatsoever on who is and isn't a terrorist

Sorry, I've just seen the DRCC consent ad and am I to understand that people are fully losing their minds in our actual Dáil because they suggested you should ask about a hug? We had driving PSAs that traumatised us but we're too sensitive, and all of y'all are losing your mind over a HUG?!

I’ve slept on it now and when I woke up, I was still still mad about it. This morning, I’m going to ring the constituent office of my local FF TD and tell him just how mad it made me. Then I’m going to call the constituency office of my local SF TD, and ask if Matt Carthy’s support is their view.

No, I’m still mad about this consent business. I don’t think it is enough just to say it.

Parents, please check your kids’ candy this Halloween. I’ve just found an ancient metal whistle with the inscription “QUIS EST ISTE QUI VENIT" inside a Snickers bar. I blew it and heard a note of infinite distance, and now I’m haunted by a figure in pale, fluttering draperies. Be safe.

And another thing, I feel like anyone who has an active real life role in the rearing of children knows that the whole "you don't have to be touched if you don't want to be" is the standard and has been for years

The thing with leftist men that'll trip you up is that they will say "all people deserve dignity and equality" and they do genuinely mean it so you think you're in the clear. Then you realise they don't think of women as people and you're like "of course"

Also, not to put too fine a fucking point on it, if my country had unearthed a bunch of mass graves of abused women and kids within living memory, I would not want to be pushing "we need to build up our children's resilience to unwanted attention and get them to keep quiet about it."

re: not making kids hug and kiss people, I saw a great video ages ago that recommended adults ask "do you want a hug goodbye?" instead of "can I have a hug goodbye?" because it prioritises what the child is comfortable with over what the adult wants, I think it's a small but smart change

I find the pushback very disingenuous anyway, the goal very obviously isn't "ban hugging your granny" it's "children shouldn't learn to be compliant with physical acts that make them uncomfortable just because an adult told them to" AND WE ALL KNOW WHY

Can’t teach children it’s ok to say no to non sexual contact you don’t want, can’t give children sex education, must teach children to be resilient, it’s almost like these people think the secrecy and lack of knowledge and power children have that leads to abuse is a good thing (they do)
