Just about the dumbest thing ever. Car-obsessed folks seem unable to understand that cities belong to more than just them.

Since 2016, the City of Toronto has spent about $27 million to design and install bike lanes. It’ll take an estimated $48 million to rip them up. Here, we crunch some of the numbers for what Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes will cost Toronto’s residents: thewalrus.ca/doug-ford-is-spe...

The saddest news. I have twice been a juror for the Governor-General's Award for non-fiction. Both times, I was left with more than 100 books of Canadian non-fiction, some of it excellent, and both times, my local librairies declined because they had no room.

No different than the CAQ scapegoating temporary workers after it asked the federal gov’t to allow it to double the permitted share of temporary foreign workers in Quebec to tackle labour shortages back in 2021-22. These folks rely on voters’ political amnesia.

I will say the rank cynicism of Smith demanding more provincial control over immigration when she was one of the premiers who begged for higher immigration targets just over 2 years ago is a lot to take. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

That’s nasty on every level. Wow. Ya they don’t care. When I was a teen I called 911 because I was on Atwater Cabot square and saw a homeless lady (indigenous) lying on the ground. Not moving. Cops came and go “oh 🙄 that’s Petula”. The fuck? So? Check on her! Ffs. 28 years ago and I’ll never forget

Don’t Quebecers deserve the same access to screening as other Canadians? We’re the only province without an organized colorectal cancer screening program. We must request the test ourselves. This probably goes as well as you’d expect in a province where 1/4 lack a regular healthcare provider.

When it comes to preventive care, Quebec is quite a bit lacking. My wife that has history of breast cancer in her family still struggled to get her first examination. And I’m appalled by how the province ignores colorectal cancer screening in their policies, it’d save so many lives and money.

“Quebec gov’ts have a track record of hyper-fixating on the frivolous: What religious symbols are people wearing? Shall we abolish the role of the lieutenant-governor? Did someone utter “Bonjour-Hi”? Yet when Qc limits potentially life-saving screenings & vaccinations, cue the sound of crickets.”

So sad to hear this. Mongrain was a well-known Quebec journalist & host. A passionate supporter of immigrants, he spoke of the responsibilities — not just the expectations—of a society welcoming them. Those unfamiliar with him should watch some of his classic TV outbursts directed at racists.
