Latvian PM Andris Kulbergs hasn’t been shy telling Europe that the Baltics were always right about Russia - and that Europe must now ensure Ukrainian victory. He won’t be going quiet any time soon. Latvian voters just gave him an unprecedented mandate: www.baltictakes.com/latvian-vote...

We used to have 7 day workweeks. Then labour fought long and hard for a day off, then 2, and better work conditions all around. There's no reason we can't keep progressing, given the promise of AI, robotics, and labour-saving technology. UBI is a central part of this vision.

Everything outside the LLM model itself will be eaten by the open source movement. The model is still the product. Companies love to think otherwise but switching provider is just an API endpoint away. This trend can't be stopped as long as model capabilities are comparable.

The experience of being a child depends (upon many things) on how plentiful kids are in your neighbourhood. In the 1975 the younger Baby Boomers were still part of the 0-14 age group. Over the last 50 years many European countries saw their share of kids cut in half.

Anyway, just pointing out that the realm of what's possible keeps expanding for me, and I think that's important to recognize. For all the complaints about enshittification, the coding tools open up a really interesting alternative. /end

They just said 90-year-old Tenley Albright, who competed for the U.S. in Cortina in 1956, is in attendance. Here's what Albright's gold medal winning performance that year looked like.

Whole article is superb -- a masterclass in concise meaningful writing. This point in particular seems underappreciated. I don't think white-collar people appreciate the extent to which, until now at least, the system is rigged in their favour.

Excellent column. “Your teachers don’t know what skills will be most valuable in the future. Your parents don’t know. Even the OECD’s head of skills analysis doesn’t know”. www.ft.com/content/0409...
