Just talked about Joey Shithead to my students a few weeks ago on our Queer Toronto walk (DOA played Davids, a gay club just off Yonge St - queer and punks scenes mixed)

The punks keep winning....municipally, anyway: The councillors who won the most votes in both Vancouver and Burnaby this month have both fronted hardcore bands. Spoke with DOA's Joe Keithley and Sean Orr of NEEDS about punk and politics www.theglobeandmail.com/culture/arti...

Can we vote on this? We had a deal. We had two deals. Twice bitten, fuck off. That's my vote.

Canada-U.S. talks gain more momentum ahead of midterms: sources - Multiple government and industry sources close to trade discussions between Canada and U.S. tell CTV News there is considerable appetite from the White House to strike a deal with Canada.

From Lula’s victory speech. Hard to argue. 🇧🇷 “We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously large corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country and trying to steer our election results.”

Six Flags will add seatbelts to select roller coasters across its parks, the company said on Friday. The announcement came weeks after the death of a man who fell from a ride in Georgia and as the company contends with lawsuits over safety concerns. nyti.ms/3TS7A4Y

The vassalization of the US government by Russia is a threat to us all.

JUST POSTED: A Russian energy giant has secretly moved to acquire a position in a massive Alaska gas project. Its part of talks between Witkoff/Kushner & Putin. But CEO of US company resigns after learning of Russian money in the project. A wowzer of a story. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...

Quite frankly, an insane thing for the U.S. gov to peddle. The page ends with “Americans decide America’s elections.” Right. So, where was that energy when Republican strategists from Michigan flew to Calgary to pitch voter software to Alberta separatists ahead of their referendum?

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Just deeply embarrassing. The US Ambassador continues to insist that Canada is interfering in elections by saying things like "tariffs are bad" even after the State Dept met with Alberta separatists. @splawinski.bsky.social ca.usembassy.gov/fact-sheet-m...

Would be a shame if the water main supplying the embassy needed to be closed down for repairs for the next year or two.

Between this and the millions the CRA paid to conspiracy theorists, the Canadian government is facing some serious tests of accountability.

It is weird to me, as an 80s kid, that that the American president has just declared for Russia in a war of conquest in Europe, and it isn't just the biggest fucking geopolitical deal since 9/11.

It’s astounding to watch Trump hop on his own social-media platform each day to tell millions of American citizens to go fuck themselves and the general reaction from the public and the powerful alike is a helpless shrug. Doomed nation 😬

We just walked our community and placed 15 mini Canadian flags on public fences. It felt good - but also we are worried about our future in AB. We hope all the 70-80% of us who support Canada will vote like our country defends on it. Please do not sit this out ♥️🇨🇦♥️🇨🇦♥️🇨🇦♥️🇨🇦♥️🇨🇦

Poland’s Foreign Minister Sikorski: basically calling Trump a liar. “The US no longer finances this war since January of last year. In other words, for more than a year and a half. The US has not contributed a single cent to the defense of Ukraine. We are doing it. Europe.”

I’m on p. 183 (of 202) and I endorse this review. More discursive than Timothy Snyder’s advice and list of to-dos in On Tyranny, Lennox’s perspective as a former security and intelligence officer illuminates that this referendum is much more than an expensive 10-question quiz and racist wishlist.

Eight years ago this week, I was sworn in to the Senate of Canada. I chose a dress the colour of Alberta’s flag - or at least, as close as I could find at West Edmonton Mall on short notice!. Separatists have Alberta’s bold blue flag their symbol. But I’m not ceding it to them. #Alberta #cdnpoli

Looking at the US midterm polls. Likelihood is Trump gets neutered, but there's still a solid 4/10 Americans who believe that bullying their former allies and choosing corruption over global good is OK. I don't know how anyone ever trusts the US or American companies again when that's so prevalent.

The United States is actively helping Putin murder civilians in Ukraine. Trump is doing everything he can to force Ukraine to surrender to his friend and ally Putin so they can be subjugated by the Russians again.

Looking over the excerpts and summaries of Freeland's book, I think my favourite takeaway is that, after spending a decade watching Trudeau a) wreck the country, and b) ignore his advice to stop doing so, Chretien just regime changed the little shit.

Menace to democracy Elon Musk has slowed Starlink to sabotage Ukraine and help Putin. So what country will be stupid enough to pay millions to any of Elon Musk's companies when they now know that he may unilaterally breach contracts for personal reasons on a petulant whim? Oh, I know! The US.
