I honestly feel this way just witnessing this shit and I’m not even prominent enough for any of it to be directed at me

Rory Blank@roryblank.bsky.social

don't take this personally, chances are that this doesn't apply to you specifically, but I actually feel like I am now less funny, and less capable of coming up with good jokes now, for the pure strain of having to constantly interact with people who seem to have been kicked in the head by a horse

It is real weird to have Pasolini’s Gospel According to St. Matthew and Ken Russell’s The Devils rattling around in your brain at the same time. I think I recommend it?

The Devils is extremely worth seeing in the theater but also Jesus what a nightmare. Between this and The Squirrel and The Invite and Camp Miasma I think I need a break from movies about what horniness with no outlet does to people

Every year on the day you were born you have to go on a little adventure. And beforehand everyone is always like “what would you like to do for your adventure” and you have to pause time to remember what your personality is

Criterion Channel is currently highlighting some of the works of Kiyoshi Kurosawa, including Door 3, his sequel to the thriller Door, which I've been trying to find a good copy of for years. I'm really amped to finally see it. shoutout @mx-emotion.bsky.social for pointing this out to me

Interesting to consider the meaning of the prompt. There are lots of books I’ll always remember in some capacity. These all left a mark myninebooks.com/g/59553f6b8305

Recently found an anthology of creative writing by my 4th grade class. I’d submitted several stories. My teacher had also contributed one. It was all about me, and how readily and eloquently I argued with every adult around me. So, probably before 4th grade.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

In college when I was just starting to get into the genre I watched Ju-On: The Grudge and Carpenter’s Halloween pretty close together and they impressed so strongly on me how much is possible in horror just through precise geometry and timing. No monster is ever scarier than the medium itself can be

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

My aunt passed away earlier this year, and for a while it broke me. She always enthusiastically supported my art, from when I was a child to this year, she always insisted on buying art from me. She commissioned this Zelda art when I was 12, and she had kept it all that time.

I’m upset about Jacob Geller. I would almost certainly never work with him after these revelations and I probably won’t ever watch his videos again. I feel the same anger that drives these posts, and I’m not trying to dunk. But I’m not sure I agree with what they actually say. I want to explore that

Personally, I can’t get over how little time elapsed between his crime and the start of his career. Geller isn’t a complex case for me. I’m not even sure I disagree with a hardline “no predators in the arts” stance. But I don’t agree that you can have that stance and believe in redemption

For one thing, fields like accounting and admin are not comfortable little silos for people we don’t want to think about. They are places where basically any success at all will soon mean being given institutional power over other people. Why would we be happier to put predators in those positions?

Also, I do think making art and putting it into the world are pretty basic rights. I’m not saying I’m sure predators should have those rights, but I think a “redemption” that involves losing them is not a real redemption. So let’s be frank, either in our wrath or in our uncertainty

Fun fact: The symbol with two dots appearing above the second of two adjacent vowels in words such as naïve and coöperate is not an umlaut. It’s called a diarrhea and it indicates that you’re supposed to shit your pants while you pronounce it.

hey why is no one talking about the licensing situation with this A24/SCP thing? are they releasing it under the same cc-by-sa license every SCP project is required to have? are they betting creative commons won't hold up in court? seems like the kind of question a journalist should look into idk

I understand why people get upset when some acts of violence are not categorized as “terrorism,” but I think if we’re really examining the definition and under-utilization of that word it would be better applied to most US military activity than to some of the more nihilistic mass shootings

The only responsible attitude for liberals and progressives to align on is that all right-wing grievances, claims and believes are not only false, but malicious lies. Nothing passes the mouth of an American conservative in public life that is not meant to harm and destroy the lives of millions.

I know it's where we're at in 2026 and we all know it, but it bears stating the obvious that every major company in the world is openly throwing a tantrum that people expect them to provide goods and services instead of just sending them a payment of $200 every month for nothing
