Virtually all of the technological, policy, economic and behavioural solutions exist to tackle the climate and nature crises, and they're not being deployed at sufficient speed and scale because there isn't enough demand for reform. That's the primary solution now: Building demand for reform.

In this video, starting at 35'30", I talk about why the degradation of #Nature cannot be solved without solving #ClimateChange too, how monstrously the economy is disconnected from Nature, and five big changes needed to turn things around. www.youtube.com/live/MuEVZdA... #MacquarieUniversity

Join me at "Inspired by Nature", an afternoon at Macquarie University on 11 November, with: great speakers; the excellent documentary, "Becoming Nature Positive"; and a panel discussion, "What Does Nature Positive Mean for Us?"*. (*psst, I'm on the panel) events.humanitix.com/nature-inspi... 🦇🦎🐳

Climate disaster keeps disastering: Satellite monitoring has detected massive plumes of methane pouring from Chevron's Gorgon LNG plant in Western Australia. (This is the one connected to the world’s biggest carbon capture and storage project WHIICH IS ALSO FAILING) www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Since we're already at 1.42 degrees of warming, and possible 1.5 degrees, the political agreement to permit 2 degrees of warming always meant that some people and some places could be sacrificed for the fossil fuels investors and their political puppets.

Stop giving Pauline Hanson, Barnaby Joyce, Matt Canavan, Peta Credlin and the rest of the hatemongers a platform, ABC. Give it to the crossbench, who are doing good work. Put positive pressure on Labor, instead of stoking division

Whenever someone says that electricity is expensive because of decarbonisation, there are only two possibilities Either they are knowingly lying to you Or they are the victims of disinformation, and have been fooled by someone who was lying to them

When oil and gas companies' Scope 3 emissions are stopped, we're on the right path, but in the meantime, tackling the industry's substantial Scope 1 emissions still matters.

One of my daughters recommended the book, "Braiding Sweetgrass", by Robin Wall Kimmerer, and it was a great suggestion. Kimmerer weaves together modern science and Indigenous ways of knowing, and has created a beautiful, illuminating book about how we can understand and relate to #Nature 🍁

#nzpol remind everyone you meet to register (why didn’ this get more air time earlier?- if you recall the govt’s chaos strategy was to flood the zone with changes so while everyone was focused on the Fast Track legislation & Regulatory Stds this voter suppression act passed at Xmas 19 Dec 2025 😔)

Taking a photo is a great excuse to catch your breath when you're out for a jog. I don't remember Galen Rowell mentioning that part 😉 #sunrise #Sydney #Australia

My reference to Galen Rowell may need explaining: In "The Inner Game of Outdoor Photography", Rowell wrote about being fit for photography, and about running a couple of miles to get the right angle and, therefore, to get the rainbow in this iconic image, "Rainbow Over Potala Palace" (Tibet, 1981)

One Nation has been spending a lot of money lately. I took a look at what we know, and what we don't, about where it is coming from and who is involved for @deepcutnews.bsky.social.

Meta's net profit for 2025 was US$ 60.458 billion (~NZ$ 106.5 billion). Meta's new fees are exploiting its market dominance and doing price gauging to exploit SMEs to vacuum up yet even more grotesque wealth. It's a kind of sickness.

Redirecting the ~$1 trillion spent on the recent AI data center boom into utility-scale solar and wind ($1M/MW) could have added roughly 1,000 Gigawatts of clean power to the grid—enough to power hundreds of millions of homes.

1) "Brownlee blamed growing public frustration, financial pressure and global instability for helping fuel the hostility." Yes, so how's the Govt addressing the increasingly damaging and out-of control economic model, with poverty, degraded public services & infrastructure, growing CO2e, etc.?

Based on certain assumptions, US$50 million could: • Fund a 50MW solar farm, • Which would be enough to power 10,000 US homes, • Would abate 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, or • Would abate 600,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the 30-year life of the solar farm. (according to Copilot)

Perhaps I should do more and more calculations of how much renewable energy could be generated (or other climate / nature solutions) for the amounts spent on silly extravagances.

And include the additional financial consideration, which is how much money might be made from the hypothetical new renewable electricity and/or how much money would be shaved off retail electricity bills

Goodness. Instead of comparing it to a sparkly bra, ... How much renewable electricity could we have created if we'd used all the money invested in the data centre boom of the last couple of years; if we'd invested that same money on solving, rather than worsening, the climate crisis?
