In the last few years, I've been thinking of myself as and telling people that I'm a "community-taught developer". It seems more honest and seems a better way to acknowledge and thank the people that have helped me along the way... How about you? n8finch.com/on-being-a-c... #wordpress #opensource

Happy new year! Massive goal unlocked: I read 120 books this year (yes, at least half were audio books). I've been tracking them on my website with a plugin I created called "My Reads": n8finch.com/bookshelf/ Check it out if you want to track and share what you're reading. #wordpress

Did we all just test out Laravel Cloud 🤩??? So nice... Wow... Does anyone know if SQLite support is in the works? I've missed any documentation/roadmap/chatter about that. Well done, folks 👏

Been digging into and testing the Interactivity API in #wordpress. It's very nice and pretty straightforward. Was able to reduce a custom block's 200+ lines of JS into under 70, and things make waaaaaaay more sense, and is easier to manage. 🤓 Big thanks to all who contributed to it! 👏

It's not fancy or glamorous but this code snippet solves a huge pain point for me in Gutenberg. Reverse the column flow on desktop, let it stack correctly on mobile. Super handy for repeatable image/text combos where you want to alternate the visual order on desktop.

Wow. 😑 Why is a8c matching who they perceive to be the worst in the space? Why is “community” in quotes? I continue to be really disappointed in Matt’s decisions, rhetoric, and stubbornness. This post has the opposite effect it’s intending I think. automattic.com/2025/01/09/a...

How to Import Instagram Posts into WordPress: Because I couldn't find any good tutorials when I was working on this, I wrote one! How I liberated my Instagram posts and imported them into my WordPress blog using Apify, ChatGPT, and WP All Import. https://buff.ly/4gx6H7X #WordPress #DataLiberation

At UW, we're overhauling our WordPress theme to use blocks, coming up with a lot of fun experiments and options users can have for working with patterns and post meta. Really cool to see what people can do now 🤓. We're not using the Site Editor yet, but the roadmap is there. #wordpress

These are the conversations I’m here for!😁

I’ve been spending a lot more time shipping production sites as fully block-based-theme builds over the past year. And some challenges keep coming up. So with the release of WordPress 6.7 happening tomorrow it’s a perfect time to identify some of the things that could still use further iteration.

Good morning Bluesky #WordPress Community. If you haven’t heard, tickets are on sale for PressConf. For those that remember PressNomics, this conference is the next iteration. It’s designed for the WordPress professionals driving the WP economy. pressconf.events Check it out.

Very cool to see so many contributors WP 6.7. I contributed at the WCUS Contributor Day, love meeting new people and seeing old friends. Got to try contributing to WP Playground and the Testing team. Looking forward to continuing to contribute. 🙂

I’ve started a WordPress starter pack: go.bsky.app/CecjzGr I would love nothing more than for WP Twitter to all move to Bluesky. I’m sure I’ve missed many people already, so please please please give me your suggestions on who else I should add!

I spent the last 48 hours looking at the #WordPress update APIs. It's pretty staggering the amount of data that is being passed around. I tried to summarize it in this post. As far as I'm aware this isn't really documented anywhere, nor is it opt-in. duanestorey.com/posts/down-t...

With DataView, DataForm and block bindings, #WordPress is making a big leap to address the long awaited requests for better structured data management. Exciting things ahead.

Remember a week ago... Friday morning... At #WCUS ... How awesome that time was? Things were great, I'd been roundly beaten at Klask, had and amazing PushXPull coffee in my hands... Was talking with great folks and listening to great talks... Life was so simple back then ☺️...

So, this is a massive security problem effecting how many tens/thousands of #WordPress sites now? Right?😰 Can they pull from @wpackagist? Will that work?

Anyone have any recs or preferences for screencasting software to use? I’ve been using QuickTime for a while but just looking to see what’s out there. Just built DIY green screen with PvC pipe and some plastic tablecloths. Seems to work like a charm😁. #DIY

After reading the cease and desist letters from both WPEngine and Automattic, I'm worried for other #WordPress businesses that use "WP" in their name and "WP" or "WordPress" in their marketing materials. I'm just a dev, not a business in the community. Are y'all worried? 😕

Great writeup of the last week and reactions here by @JyolsnaJE at the @wptavern 👏: On a personal note, my stomach flipped to see that I was quoted in the article... I had my computer reading the article to me when it called my name😳😂😅. #WordPress

If anyone is looking for a @Linktree_ or @PinkaryProject alternative for their socials and has a #WordPress site that uses the block editor, I just submitted a pattern you can use for that in the pattern directory here: It's pretty bare-bones, but you…

Swag haul from #WCUS. Aww dang, where am I gonna put all this?😅 Thanks to all the sponsors who clothe us, warm our heads, encourage us with *VERY GOOD* coffee, dry us off when we get wet, and cover our fannies 😁. Legos not pictured b/c the kids already ran off with them😂.

Portland was fun… #WCUS was fun… but it’s good to be back home☺️ One plate of cheese curds and some barrel aged goodness just for me. 😏

Well, after sleeping on it, I'm really disappointed with @photomatt 's Q&A at #WCUS . Definitely felt like he threw the *people* of WPEngine under the bus. He had valid criticisms of @wpengine 's biz model and PE overlords, however... 🧵1/8

Always an amazing time at #WCUS, good to be with people, good to connect, good to learn and listen. What a crew, very thankful to be a part of this community ☺️.
