The Trump administration has blocked grants to strengthen New York’s resilience as we face an onslaught of superstorms, denied requests for federal help after disasters, and is now threatening to further weaken FEMA. NY will continue to invest in climate resilience and disaster preparedness...

thecityreporter.nycFEMA Soon Won’t Help States With Disaster Relief. For NY, That Means a Loss of Billions. The federal agency has sent critical funding to the state after Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Ida and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For my entire career, I have fought to make New York City’s public parks and infrastructure accessible to all New Yorkers, especially families. (1/2)

Today, it was wonderful to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Ruppert Park Reconstruction which will deliver on this vision by empowering families with strollers and children of all physical abilities to grow and play in our community. (2/2)

Republicans’ agenda is making America sicker. Last year, their Big Ugly Bill lavished billionaires and big corporations with hundreds of billions more in tax handouts by gutting Americans' health care. Now, hardworking Americans cannot afford the critical care they need.

washingtonpost.comRising health care costs are pushing people to forgo medicine and doctor visitsHigher insurance premiums, climbing medical costs and inflation are pushing health care expenses for Americans to new heights.

Poverty is a vicious cycle that devastates far too many lives, and it must be confronted with a 360-degree approach–which is exactly what Urban Upbound provides through career services, educational development, and personal support. (1/2)

The Holy Apostles Church has nourished our community through The Mission House soup kitchen for 44 years. I was honored to celebrate their renovated home with upgraded spaces and improved ADA measures, which will help serve more of our neighbors for years to come.

While we cannot erase the pain caused by the lies of past officials and the health damage from inhaling the toxic air, the ongoing release of these files will deliver the accountability and transparency that victims and their families deserve.

It's always a pleasure to spend time with constituents. Last night, I celebrated fall with neighbors and friends at Sutton Area's fall festival🍂

For 50 years, the Jewish Community Relations Council of NY has gathered thousands of New Yorkers in this very spot to support and protect Jewish values through rallies, vigils, and community events.

Today, I was proud to celebrate this history through the renaming of East 47th Street and Second Avenue as “Jewish Community Relations Council of New York Way.”

ICE’s chaotic, violent operations and Trump’s terror tactics have no place in our neighborhoods. It is time for every business owner to exercise their power to push this out-of-control agency out of our communities.

I’m proud to stand with every Democratic lawmaker representing NYC in urging businesses to stop ICE from using their spaces to spread fear and hurt our neighbors. #AbolishICE

Spreading misinformation like this only harms women. Abortion pills are safe, FDA approved, and standard medical care.

It was a pleasure to celebrate brand new elevators at the 42nd St - Bryant Park subway stop! NYC’s world class subway system must be accessible to all riders, and these newly installed elevators, funded by revenue generated by congestion pricing, bring our city one step closer to this vision.

I'm glad that Guilfoyle lost her ambassadorship after allegations of her asking Trump donors to pay her credit card bill came to light. But this is only a tiny step toward culling the corruption from the Trump administration. (1/2)

apnews.comTrump's ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, resigns after allegations of improper conductPresident Donald Trump's ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, has resigned after allegations of improper conduct but says she’ll “vigorously defend” herself.

When the President himself routinely uses his position to enrich himself and his allies—from crypto schemes to shoddy merch—it is no wonder that cases like this exist. (2/2)

Five days ago, ICE agents shot Oscar Belgal inside his car while his 5-year-old son sat in the back seat. A bullet remains lodged in his neck. He urgently needs surgery, yet he is being held in solitary confinement at MDC Brooklyn.

fox5ny.comMan shot by ICE in NYC has bullet lodged in neck, urgently needs surgery, lawyers sayOscar Belgal, the man shot by ICE agents during an operation in New York City, is enduring "deplorable conditions" in federal jail and needs surgery, his legal team says.

The federal government is responsible for the care of every person it detains. Leaving a bullet in a man’s neck is not detention; it is cruelty. Mr. Belgal must receive immediate medical attention.

I continue to demand a full, independent investigation to hold the officers involved accountable. ICE operations must pause across New York until the agency is adequately reined in.

We now know that officials like Giuliani intentionally ignored our claims and lied to New Yorkers about the dangers they were facing. The mishandling of these cleanup efforts exposed thousands of New Yorkers and rescue workers to toxins that are still impacting their health.

Tying mass transit and rail infrastructure grants to marriage and birth rates is holding necessary public programs hostage to further dangerous right-wing ideology.

Andy Byford's op-ed is a work of fiction. The truth is that the MTA is standing strong against Trump’s attempted takeover of Penn Station, which could destroy local zoning authorities and force NY residents and MTA riders to foot the bill.

It also amends a bad bill that would cut transit funding to New York. As the representative of Penn Station, I am proud to have voted against this amendment and bill.

I will continue fighting for transparency, accountability, and oversight of this project so we can deliver a renovated Penn Station that will actually benefit New Yorkers.

Additionally, the congressional amendment that Byford is cheering for would give Trump and his allies wide-reaching authority over this project, which could destroy local zoning authorities and cost NY residents and MTA riders an unknown amount.

ICE has no place using our courtrooms as bait to arrest individuals in immigration proceedings. Immigrants must be allowed to move through their legal proceedings without fear and unnecessary obstruction. I am glad to see this court ruling to uphold justice for immigrants in NY.

gothamist.comUS judge in NY indefinitely blocks ICE from making arrests at immigration courthousesThe judge said a Trump rule change lifting restrictions on such arrests violated administrative procedure law.

Now, the Trump administration is illegally delaying the release of funding that Congress previously authorized for HOPWA. I led my colleagues in the House and Senate in calling on the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to immediately release these funds. (2/2)

The Trump administration and other bad actors want to confuse voters to suppress our voices. We cannot let that happen. Here are the facts: Every registered voter in New York has the right to vote by mail. It is safe, legal, and easy.

The allegations of sexual assault at Cornell University are deeply horrifying. I commend this young woman for her courage in seeking justice, and I fully support the district attorney’s decision to reopen the criminal investigation. (1/4)

This case, and far too many like it, are the product of a culture of violence against women and systems that silence survivors at college campuses across our country. (3/4)

There must be a full and independent investigation into the alleged crimes and the role of the authorities who managed this case from the very beginning. Moreover, each and every one of us has a role in preventing violence against women by confronting wrongdoing and standing with survivors. (4/4)

But the victims of heinous crimes should not be forced to fight an uphill battle for justice while they work to heal from the trauma inflicted upon them. (2/4)

For the past 50 years, the #HydeAmendment has left 8 million women on Medicaid without abortion coverage & stripped their freedom to access abortion care nationwide. I'm proud to join over 200 Democrats co-sponsoring the #EACHAct to end Hyde & ensure women can access the healthcare they need.

After years of advocating for and securing funding for this project, I am grateful to our federal, state, & local partners for keeping construction moving, and I look forward to this transformative project delivering the reliable, resilient, modern rail infrastructure that our riders deserve. Our duty to the 9/11 community of victims and survivors extends beyond the anniversary of September 11. Today I was honored to speak at the WTC Environmental Health Center Symposium to support the clinical providers, researchers, and advocates who care for victims of 9/11 health-related illnesses.

I urge fellow lawmakers to continue investing in the cutting-edge research around these 9/11 related diseases, spreading awareness of resources available to those who are still getting sick from these illnesses, and ensuring every victim can access the medical care they deserve.
