In a perfect world they may make your life easier, in the real world they are impractical, a cybersecurity nightmare and a tool for authoritarian measures, not just for this government for future governments

Let’s set aside the fact that not everyone has or wants a smartphone. Building a publicly accessible database of every citizen and resident will be target number one for state actors and criminal alike. A government app on everyone phones becomes an open invitation for authoritarian abuse.

But for a fully open-source project to be closed-sourced like Redis, Elasticsearch, or MongoDB were is a massive rug pull for the open-source communities that support these projects. That kind of shift causes long-lasting damage—even if the projects are reopened later.

The only thing this executive order achieves is weakening national defence, not to mention the millions of dollars spent training the thousands of trans service members whose livelihoods are now on the line.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court granted the Trump admin’s request to enforce their ban on trans servicemembers in the military while our case with @lambdalegal.org is heard in court. We believe this ban is unconstitutional & will be struck down. We will keep fighting for our brave servicemembers.

Trans+ History Week 2025 is here – and not a moment too soon. 🏳️‍⚧️ Trans+ History Week 05–11 May 2025 While courts and commissions debate our existence, our legacy speaks for itself: We’ve always been here & always will be. Thank you 🙏 @thefoxfisher.bsky.social for the illustration 🖼️

The US constitution makes no provision for the election of a King, in fact it goes out of its way to prevent it. It’s more important than ever to remember that.

The Right to Privacy requires access to safe and secure encryption. Any law or regulation that requires back doors to encryption services undermines your right to privacy. #RightToPrivacy

A cloud storage provider being forced by the government to store customer data with weakened encryption is simply unacceptable and harmful to all consumers and national security.

In general we build software without taking into account environmental consequences, beyond those driven by economic constraints. This by definition is not sustainable. Maybe it’s time to consider the impact of our code.

FUCK, why do people vote against their own interests, why do people believe the MAGA rhetoric. Trump doesn’t stand for anyone besides himself and his buddies.

In the final months of the election, Republicans spent $215 Million on network TV ads, plus god knows how much on cable, streaming, mailers, etc. Attacking our community was without a doubt their #1 ad priority. Today, the American people get the opportunity to rebuke that hate.

So it’s November 5th, Guy Fawkes day in the UK, a day where historically we celebrated the spoiling a terrorist attack against parliament and the monarchy, and it’s election day in the US for an historic election that could change the vary course of US history and it’s democracy.

My hot take is that JS Suger vs JS0 kinda makes sense. However I agree it does kill the original idea and vision of JS, my question is do we want to keep that vision? Should we work on adding native dom apis to WASM and let WASM become the JS0?

You are up to date.
