I dream of collaborating with a team of professionals to do something with unused parking lots. I wanna call it something like "Un-Pave Paradise". Team: lot owner, asphalt company, landscape company, landscape architect, etc. I want to cut designs into the pavement, and plant native gardens.

Traffic circles are a huge missed opportunity. I volunteered a layered planting design w/ native plants to enhance the ecological value of this one. We can't have this in the US b/c the landscape industry can't care for it, become commercialized, based on labor and chemicals rather than knowledge.

I was going to be a research scientist. Then Steve Irwin died. I fell apart. I couldn't get over it and I realized all the science education I'd been doing on the side was actually what felt critically important to me. So I moved to do that full time. First through museum ed, now through KidLit. ❤️

The thought of potentially loosing employees to larger companies that can afford to pay for health ins. is depressing. We do good work here for people, pollinators, and planet and people like it here, but right now they have to choose between a job they love and health care. Doesn't seem right.

My plan is to transition the company into a largely consultation/design firm, while keeping some crew on the ground. With less overhead expenses and charging a higher rate we'll revisit our ability to offer these awesome folks help the care they need to stay healthy.
