Over the last several days I've heard directly from parents who are scared and outraged about the PPS proposals for closure of their schools. They are calling for action from their elected officials at all levels. Today I have filed an emergency that responds to the urgency of these calls. 🧡

They've got the vax tent set up in the Portland Costco pharmacy, super quick and convenient, no appointment and I was in and out in 15 minutes. Got my flu and covid shots, pray for me.

Been reading about a lot of very bad but entirely ordinary people throughout history for the next season of Past Lives (Everyday Villains). This guy is utterly typical. 1) Doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. 2) Permission structure in a system of hierarchical authority. 3) Benefits materially.

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

stg online bill pay for a lot of things is getting to the point where it would be quicker to write a check and mail it like, I sign in every goddamn month from the same browser, and nobody is going to hack into my account and pay my bill for me, maybe you don't need to quadruple verify my identity

Worker democracy in in action: "A motion to rescind that endorsement passed at a Wednesday night union meeting by a vote of 109–33, with 157 members present."

Willamette Week@wweek.com

The move, just days before the election, comes after Basic Rights Oregon rescinded its endorsement of Brim-Edwards over anti-trans comments.

man, thinking of a number of friends and family here I tried to be a smoker in college and failed, I'm not capable of becoming addicted to nicotine. I'd be like, damn, forgot to buy smokes, maybe I'll get some tomorrow. But maybe I'd have been less of a fuckup if I'd succeeded.

gonna bury this one in the replies a little bit but while i think dx uptick for adhd is very much driven by awareness i think it's also driven by nicotine cessation-- we had a widespread-to-the-point-of-inescapability drug that ~worked pretty well for ADHD (shame about the other side effects)

This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of ridersβ€”and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

There is no world in which I will vote in favor of removing the first-class clause, and it's not something the Mayor can do unilaterally. This man has secured a path to roughly a billion in public subsidy for a stadium deal (despite my opposition) and still cries poor. We deserve better than this.

The Oregonian@oregonian.com

Negotiations between Trail Blazers owner Tom Dundon and Portland officials have stalled over a $1 billion settlement demand tied to the team's first-class arena maintenance clause, with Dundon pushing for a 10-year buyout option rather than the required 20-year lease commitment. https://mrf.lu/2bWJc

I think we should allow the Portland Metro Chamber to choose the Mayor, who will then be ritually sacrificed at half court at the Rose Garden to kick off the fiscal year.

I really like the idea of a 13th, citywide Council member as President: - It (potentially, depending on how you define their duties) gives the legislative branch a bit more power - Allows Council to break their own ties - Allows that role to be more impartial and less connected to any one district

The greenhouse makes a good subject to show digital correction of the distortion inherent to a fish eye lens. I haven't yet figured out how to get the specific correction file for my lens into Darktable, but this file for another 7.5mm lens is pretty close.

The mayor caved to Trump, removed DEI language, and this connected developer is dropping the r slur in public meetings and calling me a burrito in racist group chats but according to Willy Week the Big decorum issue is that I’m too mean talking about racism and sexism and other isms in this space

Councilor Mitch Green@councilorgreen.bsky.social

Today in the Housing and Permitting Committee Chair Avalos had to interrupt and call to order Brian Owendoff who violated our rules of decorum and engaged in ableist slurs at the dais. Mr. Owendoff’s comments were deplorable and the chair was right to gavel him out.
