So many people told me not to come here bc … of many different preconceived notions about life and the government. I’ve been here 2 months. I still have much to learn, that’s for sure. But this is pretty effing eye opening for me. And I hope it is for you, too. We can have better, at home or away.

Less! Than! 5CNY! (def under $1 US). The whole visit including meds? 75 CNY. Total: under $12 US and time about 45 minutes What the actual f*ck US healthcare? I want to rant about the times I have skipped the Dr., not been able to pick up meds, had to request diff meds, etc due to prices.

I want to SCREAM about going bankrupt 2x primarily due to medical debt. I want to not tell this story, bc it hurts my soul as a US expat and I’m afraid of how it may make my US friends feel. I’ve been lowkey sad since. But - I think it’s important to make sure this truth is out there.

Got results from Dr., they need antibiotics. Written a prescription. 50 CNY (say $7 US) for appt and bloodwork (effing $8 for bloodwork???!!!) Checked out. Whole appt about 35 min. Go to pharmacy to pick up prescription, apprehensive bc we have all paid for antibiotics before and that can be ugly…

So they went. Got through the door of random clinic and were told they don’t take there insurance (insert Taylor Swift and Bon Iver “Exile” here). BUT THEN: they were told this is not what ins is for here. It’s for hospital stays and broken bones. They were reassured that this would be v affordable.

I have just remembered that I need a pizza for this & it will be 7am for me & definitely nowhere w pizza will be open. There are places open, but I am allergic to tomatoes & ordering no sauce is impossible to guarantee, so I have ordered a beef Wellington pizza. Thoughts & prayers are appreciated 😂
