American living in Australia. GenX mom of two. Happily married 25 years News junkie who had tens of thousands of trolls blocked on Twitter and now can't stand the place. Love 80s music, reading, true crime, cats, crossword puzzles. Hater of so-called AI

In my house, if your teenage daughter says she's interested in maybe reading Jane Eyre, you immediately go out and get a copy of Jane Eyre. I had one when I lived in the US, but I couldn't bring all my books with me when I moved to Australia. My library is getting filled again as time goes by.

I ordered an XTEINK 4 ! This thing looks awesome. I hear there's one with a light coming out soon, but I want battery life more than anything in this ereader. I can use my Kobo if I want light. I want something small and lightweight to go out in the world that seldom needs charging. So excited!

I've been freezing, and oodies are heavily discounted, so I bought one, and I am finally comfortable! I love this thing. Why have I waited so long?

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

I just put a bunch of books on hold at the library with the hope they'll trickle in one at a time, and not all come at once.

I hate my new "smart" dishwasher!! I wish my old dishwasher hadn't broken. This dishwasher is so frustrating. Why can't I just push a button and have my dishwasher run?????

Sometimes, the covers people make for ebooks make no sense at all for the book. This is a book about the French Revolution and adventure. What is this photo about?

The thing I miss most about living in Australia is street tacos. So we cooked some carne asada, rice, and beans, and had a feast!

I imagine once trump is gone and these goons start getting arrested for the assaults and murders they committed as ICE agents they will suddenly remember that being allowed to see your lawyer is actually a very important part of the whole process.

It is supposed to get up to 110 degrees F and our area has a catastrophic bushfire risk tomorrow. I love Australia but bushfires are scary.

I've lived in Australia long enough that I can hear my upper midwestern accent if I hear my voice. Very strongly. I think I'm too old to lose it.

In the new year, I plan to jump on the sourdough train. My kids love sourdough and maybe I can learn how to make it myself instead of paying so much for it.

I have a bunch of old recipe cards that were my grandmothers - she was married in the mid late 30s, and the newest ones seem to be from the 70s. Some were from the milkman when he made deliveries. This one is from the bottom of an order form, but some are promotional Betty Crocker recipe cards.

Me watching my kids play the new Pokemon game: "Why is every single waste bin a mixed recycling bin?" Focusing on the important things in the game.

The cat got stuck in the pantry last night and destroyed everything. I’m home from work today cleaning the cat and the pantry. The cat is fine, though a bit spooked. Photo of said cat:

I bought a book, and as I was reading it realized I had already read it. This is why I am now keeping a reading journal. I wish I starting doing it ages ago.

Big sigh. Watch this. Can you see why the Yankees’ moment of silence, the lowered flags, the promise of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, feel like a gut punch to the very people he spent years targeting? No one wished death on this man, but what we’re seeing right now is too f*cking much.

I've had the same water bottle for about 6 years, but the top was hard to clean and broke at some point so it leaked, and I've been dealing with that. But then I bought a new top, and it's been redesigned, and the new one looks easy to clean, and it's like I have a new water bottle.
