being an old "millennial" is gonna sound so much more charismatic than being an old "boomer", like some kind of elder vampire caste i hope we get to keep our moniker by the time the young start blaming everything wrong with the world on us, cause we won the lottery with that one it goes hard

if you looked at these graphs you'd maybe guess that, here in italy, the anti-inequality animosity from the left on our social media would differ substantially from that of the US or that they'd blame unfettered capitalism much less for our country's ills if so, you'd be wrong on both counts

italians suck in many ways and americans rock in many others but one thing that sucks about US culture as I perceive it is just how many seem to find certain kinds of... sadism? entertaining, imo or maybe that's just my impression, idk

When it comes to evaluating my own ideas, it's really annoying to be paralyzingly pessimistic by default and overconfident when on my ADHD meds - with no good middle ground I mean if I have to choose between the two, at least on overconfidence I try lots and get something done! but man... x_x

I haven't followed the GPT-5 release closely, but I saw a lot of disappointed commentary Progress sure doesn't seem to have plateaued on at least this measure though

3 months later i'm still looking for something like this, if anybody's down

looking for meditation buddies to try to do a ~daily meditation pomodoro with for a while i'm flexible with time and open to anyone and any level of expertise (beginner myself)

I actually just scored 130~140 in what should be a pretty reliable test, and I even have pretty good reasons to believe I underperformed I'd been told the psychotic breaks I went through came with int decline, so I was terrified to test till now... but to my immense relief I seem to be doing ok! :D

My brain is pretty boring in some ways. 120~130 probs, & not nearly as much knowledge as I'd like due to laziness, ADHD and bad long term memory To the extent I find it interesting, it's mostly that I spend a lot of time thinking, I'm independent-minded, and open to updating views and self-improve

I dont want to hide where I stand for fear of losing some bluesky friends– I think Woke is a serious threat to liberalism and lucid policy-making, not a mere annoyance. It worries and irritates me to see it downplayed. But Trumpism is an *even worse* threat to my ideals and very worth fighting too.

Any explanation of the appeal of Scott Alexander or rationalism that doesn't also explain why they're the only culture that values and promotes prediction markets and other methods of rigorous predictive accountability so much is not a very good explanation imo.

Here's my theory about (part of) the appeal, particularly in nerd circles, of Scott Alexander and Curtis Yarvin. And it's a theory of why so many people found them appealing who weren't (simply) in it for the plausible-deniability racism or their central message that a high IQ makes you superior. 🧵

Nuño AMA still active get in • founding member of formidable forecasting team Samotsvety (pic1: Scott Alexander endorsement) • runs Sentinel, a young nonprofit org to predict and prevent catastrophes. Makes great weekly global risk reports too, look it up! • great person all around, rec following

Ask me anything in this thread and I'll answer it until further notice (noticing that bsky engagement rate is pretty low and trying to increase it)

IMO trve counterculture tries to push multiple correlated swinging cultural pendulums as close to the ideal, "correct" center positions as possible, if that makes sense. Can be an eternal struggle because they love to swing wildly, & the "centers" are hard to aim for and to see, and can even shift.

counterculture is an inherently self-defeating proposition as soon as you get on top now you're the culture and you now have to fight yourself

If you not only feel, but WELCOME the feeling of joy at the extreme suffering of your outgroup or you ENCOURAGE it in others, it's a very reliable signal that your moral compass is trash, according to understanding of morals that makes sense to me Hold me accountable if I'm not consistent w this 🤝

Hello profile visitor! 😁 Please be aware that if you: • broadly disagree with me and what I'm about • would be willing to *non-aggressively* engage with me to offer me your perspective on where we diverge I'd SUPER-APPRECIATE your follow!

I have earned exactly one block afaik and it was for having a disgusting pfp Wouldn't change the pfp even if it resulted in half of bisky blocking me though 😛

That's funny af! 😂 But I would honestly pay for a pretty expensive subscription for an "Against you" tab that instead highlighted the best arguments against my current beliefs.

The Human Equation is a concept album by Ayreon. It's the story of a man who goes into coma; his emotions split into different entities and start a dialogue among themselves. One very fun thing I would strongly recommend everyone to try to do: try to put together your own T.H.E. concept playlist.

I had made one such playlist quite a few years ago... ...then deleted it as I freaked out when I suffered from a psychotic break in 2019. I never put it back together. I miss it. I had put a lot of effort into building it. I'd grown very attached to it and it used to make me very emotional. 😄

Anybody would be up for some music exchange poasting? I'd like to hear what music y'all like. Especially if not mainstream, but I'm fine with anything.

This might read like a humblebrag to some, but I assure you I feel like an intellectual midget compared to the thinkers I look up to. I think if I can defend myself, and to the extent that I can, it's in large part due to my openness to updating. Which I want to leverage in every way I can.

What would you guys think of the practice of taking screenshots and reposting here the best thought-starting or interesting material one finds on Twitter? 🤔 I want AT Proto to succeed... but honestly not skilled enough to produce constant stream of interesting thoughts by myself to make that happen

Give me a few examples of tribes that have more of an ingrained culture of actively inviting viewchanging criticism than 2023 EA does... ...and I'll probably feel at least less irritated if you decide to throw the "cult" label at them. (Rats don't count.)

Negative headspace today 😐 Just want to stop trying to drain the ocean of shit with my tiny bucket, go "fuck it, I quit", and sit back and laugh as it all spirals into whatever - as it would either way Feels like there's not nearly enough people who really care to make this work 🤷‍♂️

😩 I don't know, like How about we just don't bully anyone as a rule because that's shitty behavior and because a culture that celebrates bullying has a tendency to empower the very worst people and ideas Just saying, you know?

If I ask you to tell me or signal to me *explicitly* if you don't want to interact with me, and I superduper promise no hard feelings if you do... and yet you don't: I don't feel like you can blame me if I keep interacting with you. And yet I just stopped interacting with someone *just in case*.

Concept: Profile Review Exchange Pair up with someone -- ideally someone with a worldview that's sufficiently different from yours, but whom you can still trust to be tactful and tolerant of your differences... ...and go through each other's posts, leaving replies where you disagree.

I wanted to connect with some people here through the music that makes me emotional. So today I started making a Spotify playlist of such songs, thinking there would be, like, no more than 10 that really qualified... ...but turns out there's ~4 hours of music that qualifies. 😅 Where do I start?

I think I'm soon gonna start subjecting my followers to a little bit of my favorite music ~everyday for a while 🤔 If you don't like it, take it out on @glyphrotator.bsky.social - he gave me license to be "cringe and free", and I think that's a splendid idea. Not gonna flood your feed w it tho, dw.
