This speaks to me so much. Just a really great article about the structural and cultural sluggishness that still exists. ‘Culture is not just what an organisation says it values, but what it makes easy, difficult, safe, risky, worthwhile or pointless.’

This is so full of wisdom and important questions, I could quote the whole thing as a thread. But probs best if you just read it. 👀 "Senior leaders do not need to become designers but it may be useful to think a little more like one."

Escaped busyness and a bout of serious internet-related funk to assemble a Clear Language Club newsletter.
This one goes out to my fellow UCD-ers in the Welsh public sector ❤️ medium.com/@niacampbell...
Very much looking forward to this. An American Tail and The Secret of NIHM were favourites in our house growing up. According to my mam, I used to sing 'Somewhere out there' on the bus home from town, and people would join in. 😅 www.cartoonbrew.com/documentary-...
"...when it comes to making meaningful changes in Wales, we consult into oblivion, wait a long time, and then consult some more. A decade goes by and the only thing that seems to change is the depth of the problem." Diolch @willhaycardiff.bsky.social - can we get this on billboards?

Exclusive: the government doesn’t want you to know who’s advising it on civil service reform medium.com/state-of-the...
I like these kinds of initiatives. What's interesting is that many of the ideas suggested on the website could be partly solved by hiring service and content designers. But I guess having an external person come along and say what you've been banging on about for years helps get things done. 🥲
BIG NEWS: Today I’m excitedly launching The Small Ideas Initiative. We want you to submit ideas for non-controversial fixes, e.g “live sewage updates for beaches” or “standardised allergen menus” to turn into proper policy. Full info here... blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2026/10/mart...

New from us on digital transformation in NHS Wales and what needs to change.
Audit Wales recently published a series of audits examining digital delivery across NHS Wales. Health boards spend £216m a year on technology, with more than £170m going on ageing legacy systems - leaving only around 20% for digital change.
Another post from the NHS Wales App team on what we learnt from our 'Authorised access' pilot, and the pain points we're aiming to address for both patients and practice staff before wider rollout. dhcw.nhs.wales/news/behind-...

A great example of why content or information design matters. Labeling government spending clearly for the public could help reduce FOI requests. Nice to see this raised and discussed sensibly in the Senedd. 🌟 nation.cymru/news/welsh-g...

Delighted to share that Writing While Caring is now available to buy. I’m anti-Amazon but we must acknowledge that unpaid carers are frequently poor and housebound so here: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1804472352/ We’re keeping the cost as low as we can. May it give you strength and comfort and please share
When I'm having one of those weeks and the public sector makes me question my sanity, it's good to remind myself that I work with an awesome little UCD team. From Amy, our lead service designer: dhcw.nhs.wales/news/behind-...
