Charles Minard’s map of Napoleon’s march on Moscow, only each town is a gate review and the width of each band shows how much time we spent *not* building and shipping things.

If you’re a lead or head working on a digital service, you’re going to be held to account by more than GDS’s guidance. And it doesn’t all live in the same place. My favourite governance nerd, Oli Lovell, has pulled together a compass. Have a peek. publicdigital-delivery-compass.netlify.app/trial/

Make it possible to verify your identity as *both* a director and PSC in the same service. Especially if that means doing the hard work to make things simple.

As someone who runs a small business and for some reason pays my taxes…. Today’s “red tape” cut to company paperwork makes no real difference to me or my ability/desire to expand. As someone who investigates small business high street tax evasion… great news for candy stores and scam dropshippers!

First time I’ve ever had a complete tech meltdown when facilitating an online community session. Blessed to have team-mates who stepped in and helped!

i love their satire of a joe rogan podcast so much, but this snippet from the new one ends on the perfect punchline

We've read 246 books this year with Z. This is revolutionary!

Today I’ve got to write about all the roadblocks we’ve hit trying to do an alpha, including waiting almost 90 days for the permissions required to raise PRs and test code on one repo.

Just hoping we don’t fall into a back-and-forth with Information Governance over a 5-month period like a colleague did.

in croatia a few years ago, a girl’s inflatable flapped away in a wind. after a swim trying to catch it, much like this video, the girl and her father came back to shore. then the dad paid a local fisherman to rent his small boat with an outboard, and he gathered the inflatable back!

never cheered so hard in my life, started a standing ovation for the man. his daughter was so happy. absolute legend.

“once while hanging a front gate, i realised i was missing a part and had to order a drill bit by click & collect”

We should call this ‘misautomation’, automating the wrong aspects of a process or towards the wrong outcomes.

So uhhhhhh… Apparently meta's muse "AI" is just straight up doxxing people to strangers on FB marketplace??? This has the potential to hurt so so many people, and I genuinely wonder how long before they roll out a fix for it.

Another thing I wrote about was not using it just because you feel like you should, and to value outcomes over outputs. Two other good strategies for keeping costs down.

there is no need for the a.i. hysteria in the news, it is simply a way to capture attention and get everyone to believe it’s the future. sure, it’s useful, but it‘s not cheap or without planetary cost. it’s statistics applied to words, not ‘intelligence’.

why doesn’t the bbc say that the licence fee includes free tickets to live at the apollo, have i got news for you, and radio 4 recordings? quite good value when you consider that.

Wild how walking around thinking about the thing you are working on usually helps sort it out while sitting staring at it does not

looking forward to a walk and camp on the south downs this weekend

September! How did that happen? 🍂 From changing landscapes to seasonal wildlife behaviour, there are plenty of signs that the seasons are changing. Look out for: • The first hints of autumn colour • Berry-laden hedgerows • The start of the deer rut • Early morning mists 📸: James Ratchford

I’m currently reading a book about the 1381 peasant revolt and the contemporary patriots were assembled for ‘the true commons’, not the leader’s personal matters.

Daniel Thomas / Danny Tommo has today marched his private army of blackshorts to Daily Mail HQ to demand a new house for his mum within 48 hrs, after they doorstepped her for a feature on him. Apparently he plans to blockade them + cry at them until they do Bet those lads are glad of the balaclavas
