Wrote the intro for this week's Premium but wanted to share in advance, because people need to start being realistic about what Claude Code/Codex can actually do, and how they are not replacing All Software Companies in a few prompts (and no, they will not get there either).

Here is an annotated version of the Citrini Memo with my own intro. It is analyslop - scare-fiction written to ingratiate AI boosters and analysts/traders with tales of ultra-automation and socialist data center policies. Shameful that the markets reacted at all. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1p1n0...

To put this in very plain terms: Cursor is THE example - THE AI startup that proved you could build a successful company using Anthropic/OpenAI’s API - their $500m revenue came from a product they can no longer sell. Their death would prove that there is no VC opportunity in gen AI startups.

This sounds like complete wank to me! Is it generating money or saving money? How did that $500m saving get calculated? If you can't get those answers don't publish this story it's that simple

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do. by @timothysnyder.bsky.social

When will AI replace engineers? - 5:50 PM: Spot a bug in prod. Could wait till tomorrow. Obviously, I don’t. - Quick local fix. Works like a charm. Confidence level: high. - Branch created. PR up. It’s past 6 PM. Rational brain: “Maybe do it tomorrow?” Me: “Let’s chase perfection instead.”

- Backend is already live. Frontend is still chilling in staging. Sync issues now in production. Delightful. - I go to the lake to reflect on life and poor timing. - 20 minutes later: Deploying to prod from my phone. At this point, why not.

- Hit a merge conflict. Of course. Spent 20 minutes diff-wrangling files I didn’t even touch. For accuracy. - PR is merged. CI/CD ready to do its thing. Except it doesn’t. - Cloudflare picks this exact time for a regional outage. Cool.

There is an increased narrative about AI matching in job search market. This is nonsense. You match people, who lie, to job descriptions of companies, who lie. Everybody lies (c) House M.D.

Nothing beats flow and focus. No OKRs or KPIs, no boss standing behind your back. Best thing - we all know it to too well, but still allow a system of “managers” to eat the margins.

Now I understand the difference between bloggers/youtubers and professional journalists, who study and work for decades before then interview any small or (if truly lucky) politicians. The first one are solely for entertainment purposes.

You are up to date.
