Casually talking with someone who just got into VR and needed some starter tips, and I can feel a bit of the old thrill coming back 😅️ Almost tempted to dust off my Quest 1 and see how the #godot XR stack has evolved… If the battery isn’t finally dead by now, that is 👀️

Argh, really need to find a way around breakpoints related to WASD movement replacing the current line with "wwwwww" in vscode when they are hit (while I keep press "w"). Truly one of the biggest low-level annoyances 🤣️ #gamedev #godot #solodev

Part I had caught me completely off-guard a few weeks ago, and I quickly followed it with part II. Now it’s time to finish the trilogy. Pretty much the best Japanese movies I’ve seen so far up to 1961. And yes, that counts Ozu, Kurosawa, and Mizoguchi (please don’t shoot me😅️) #NowWatching #filmsky

Decided to give LinkedIn another try. Heard it’s become an inhuman hellscape of AI-uberoptimized generic profiles and sloppy AI posts 🫠️ Kinda hate all that self-marketing, but I need to get moving if I want to get anywhere. Freelancing has been mostly diminishing returns for the past year or so.

#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched Wasn’t my first watch of Last Year at Marienbad but it sucked me in again with that hypnotic beginning, and it’s atmosphere lingers on. Also, liked One-Eyed Jacks quite a bit more than anticipated. Western is not thing but the characters just worked so well.

Okay, hiding the Script Editor tab (I use vscode) via Manage Editor Features also completely disables attaching/detaching scripts via the Scene Dock, which is... going a bit far? 😅️ #godot #godotengine

Powered game objects with state animations/sounds/lighting, and a simple power grid implementation working :3 #godot #solodev #indiegamedev

Whelp, seems I hit Godot’s rather obscure 15 2D lights per-something limit*. Time for some redesign using shader lightening or sprites with additive blending 🙈️ #godot #indiedev #sologamedev * srsly, is this mentioned anywhere clearly in the docs?

Okay, after fruitlessly playing around with shaders (killed the performance) and sprites with additive blending (didn’t look right), turns out turning down the quadrant rendering size for my tilemaplayers helped... I’m almost sure this will bite me in the ass somewhere down the road but anyway 🙏

Watched La Dolce Vita a few days ago, and having a bit of hard time not mashing both together in my head while watching 😅️ mainly thanks to Marcello Mastroianni. Not expecting another sea monster though. #NowWatching #FilmSky

#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched Saturday Night and Sunday Morning was the biggest surprise for me, it felt super fresh, even compared to French and Italian New Wave films of the same period. But enabling subtitles was a must 😂

Spent some time setting up a component for my world objects to randomly play little scenes, combining animations, sounds, and frame-controlled lighting. And really frictionless to add new scenes via Aseprite and Reaper as well :] #godot #godotengine #indiegamedev #solodev

#NowWatching Pretty cozy so far, and you really can’t go wrong with Simone Signoret and Marcello Mastroianni :)

Quite some unexpected gut punchers this time. #LetterboxdFriday #lastfourwatched #FilmSky #MovieSky #Films #Movies

Finally got around to implement Ink-based dialogs again. Really not sure at this point in which form to embed this into the interface, I do want to make this playable without mouse at some point. Gonna check out some best practices... #godot #sologamedev #indiedev

Found out you actually can prepare .import files with desired import parameters, and Godot will just pick them up and do the rest. That offers some intriguing workflow possibilities, like presetting looping or bpm values for audio files exported from DAWs via script, hmmm... #godot #indiegamedev

Had some fun (between all the bugfixing) to work on some pixel art for objects, giving the maps a sense of place :] And I’m realizing complementary colors and lighting can do a lot of lifting for a palette that has just a few to many gray and drab tones 😅️ #screenshotsaturday #indiegamedev #godot

Yeah, somebody told me at some point making games is _hard_, and after a day spent with fixing bugs, I totally feel it 😅️ But it feels super rewarding at the same time! #sologamedev #gamedev

Noticed I've increasingly adopted turning more and more log messages about non-critical bugs and inconsistencies or even just warnings into full-blown debug asserts because my logs have becoming super crowded and I'm always too lazy to look dig thru them 😅 #godot #indiegamedev #solodev

Made a fair bit of progress today implementing in-game cutscenes via my JSON script system :] Finer controlling the timing of specific script events will need a bit more work of though. #godot #indiegamedev #sologamedev

Had some fun adding a scanner mode. Might turn out to be just agimmick... or a central game play element, we’ll see :D #Godot #IndieGameDev #SoloDev

So happy I set a shortcut for "Reload Current Project" at one point. Godot has been working out great for me with C#, but oof, you really have to reload the editor often because something becomes desynchronized 🙈️ Hoping the editor support gets better down the line 😇️ #Godot #Gamedev

Okay, picking a Amiga Public Domain game is probably cheating a bit. "Hanger 18", an adventure/shooter game from 1995 really thrilled me as a child. It used the joystick for moving and the mouse for aiming, and featured sprites ripped from Syndicate. Dreaming of remaking it in Godot one day...

This post is unavailable.

Took me a few days of weeding out nasty bugs, but finally got map transitions with full world/item persistence working :] #godot #indiegamedev #solodev

Feels a bit nerdy to set up a player component that takes frame change events from the player sprite manager, queries the player tilemap scanner component, and then tells the sound manager to play step sounds... Guess I’m firmly in composite design territory by now, love it! 😅️ #godot #gamedev

Save system finally working flawlessly! 🙏️ Next stop: getting the quest system and script system to play along nicely. #godot #sologamedev #indiegamedev

Whelp, spent the whole day fixing my save system; got it almost done, then got sidetracked with some structural optimizing that ended up spreading over pretty much all my code base. Result: save system broken again 😂 #indiegamedev

So, turns out C# standard events and collections are much faster compared to Godot’s equivalent classes? Guess I’m off rewriting heavy-duty parts of my projects… 😅️ I only ever use Signals by code, anyway, and Godot’s collections are only really necessary when exporting to the editor 🤷‍♀️️ #Godot

(Also, turns out plain C# actions make debugging in vscode easier, as there’s not need for all the in-between calls Godot’s signals introduce. And following signals via ctrl + click was impossible as well.)

Warning to my past and future self: Implement loading/saving early, not just randomly down the line, I repeat… Seriously, if there’s one element in all my projects that fills me with sheer terror, it’s this. So annoying to debug. Maybe I should finally use a testing framework 🫠️ #Godot #IndieGameDev

Finally added my debugging infrastructure to my top down retro adventure/shooter main project, "The Envoy", as well. Should make debugging and adding scripts and content much easier :] #godot #gamedev #indiedev

Getting my JSON-based script system into shape, which will be a core part for many of my now + future projects. Also finally got around to adding some robust in-game debugging infrastructure for easier monitoring what all my wicket subsystems do. Digging through logs is annoying xD #Godot #Solodev

Well well, checking out bsky again after a long hiatus. Thinking about making this account mainly about posting about my ever-changing and never-finished Godot game projects :)

Currently working my way through a long historical list of ~1000 important movies and oof, best decision ever 😱 didn't even think lists could be that motivating to me...

Reminding myself it’s totally fine (and probably not that uncommon?) to work on like 6 or 7 games simultaneously, and never really finishing anything 😅 At least I’ve learned to aggressively milk each project for reusable code and submodules, so I need to touch basic stuff less and less by now...
