Nick Johnston

I ranked all 376 movies I saw last year across 2 streams. VODS: youtu.be/W-iJRwgj9-k (Part 1) [Still processing on YT] (Part 2)

Infirmary, The Freshman, Marius and V/H/S/Mixtape. I was pleasantly surprised with the new V/H/S entry. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched #Filmsky

Watched V/H/S/Mixtape tonight and it has one of my favorite shorts and some of my new least favorites. 1. V/H/S/94 2. V/H/S/2 3. V/H/S 4. V/H/S/Beyond 5. V/H/S/Halloween 6. V/H/S/Mixtape 7. V/H/S/99 8. V/H/S: Viral 9. V/H/S/85 #foundfootage #filmsky

Until “Coyote vs Acme”, I honestly always thought the Road Runner was a girl.

Just found out there is a Korean adaptation of Doctor X. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_...

Spent the weekend ranking every story from V/H/S (not the frame narratives). Overall: 1. V/H/S/94 2. V/H/S/2 3 (tied). V/H/S 3 (tied). V/H/S/Beyond 5. V/H/S/Halloween 6. V/H/S/99 7. V/H/S: Viral 8. V/H/S/85 Excited to add V/H/S/Mixtape in the, well, mix. #foundfootage #filmsky

I hope Letterboxd doesn’t sell to someone bad. Last 4 are Captain Horatio Hornblower, Border Radio, V/H/S and V/H/S/2. I’m in the process of rewatching the V/H/S series and ranking all the shorts in them. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched #FilmSky #FoundFootage

Today I learned that Ys 1’s final boss is pretty much in unbeatable on Steam unless you set the FPS limit in NVIDIA and game settings to 60. I played the whole game with the turbo button jammed in I guess.

Going to share what I watched this week instead, all of the Pierre Etaix films on the criterion channel were pretty funny and I definitely recommend Yoyo. #LetterboxdFriday #FilmSky

Spent a non zero amount of time today wondering how Anya would respond to a Muppet.

Me apologize to a new neighbor I met for the third time in a conversation: "I told you I'm bad with names, what's your name again."

CLIC 2027 is coming again to the Picture Coding Symposium! The validation phase is already open. More info: compression.cc. See you 7–10 June 2027 in Mexico City!

I bet that Criterion sale is coming up next month. Anyone have recommendations for me? I've watched a good amount (logged here: letterboxd.com/nmjohn/) but happy to hear anyone's favorites or recommendations that I haven't seen. #filmsky

Everytime Peter Falk mentions his wife in Columbo, I pretend she is Gene Rowlands from A Woman Under the Influence.

Another low movie week I hope to make up for this three day weekend. The Box Man, Beyond the Hills, Coup de Torchon and Broken Rage. Really enjoyed and recommend Broken Rage. #LetterboxdFriday #filmsky

Very excited to beat another childhood game. We were shocked we met all the criteria on stage 99 and just kept going. www.youtube.com/shorts/bVgDt...

Light movie week, but watched Sunshine Cleaning, PIerrot le Fou, Two Girls on the Street and Normal. Looking forward to watching Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma this weekend. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

Really, really loved Heretic. I did not recognize Hugh Grant because I haven't seen him in anything outside of 90s romantic comedies. Heretic, The Watermelon Woman, Butterfly Kisses, and Farewell Amor. I'd recommend any of these 4 movies to anyone. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

This came to me in a dream.

Last night, 657 days into my journey of watching all the Criterion Collection, I finished my 250th spine, Edward Yang's Taipei Story. Was my favorite Edward Yang film (that would be Yi Yi). 250 down, 1082 (as of now) to go.

Saw the Odyssey today. Really been a great year for new movies.

How have I never thought of salami bits instead of bacon bits.

Film you've watched more than six times with a GIF. No Star Trek, Star Wars, LOTR, Marvel, Disney or Ghibli

It’s weird rewatching “Network” and they’re complaining about the food making them sick and everything being too unaffordable and there’s a recession and the “Saudis” are raising the price of gas and corporations control everything and the movie is completely unrelatable to life in 2026.

I need to watch some more horror movies this weekend.

Without saying your age, what's your favorite movie that came out when you were 18?

Incredibly anxious and antisocial but I survived the party.

Me over an hour into a period piece with Sam Neill.

My wife is making me choose between botulism chili and diarrhea salad.

For a moment, I want you to realize how great a Zatoichi X Lady Snowblood movie could be.

Got a real person camera and took my first photo (all auto settings in poor lighting), but our dog Anya looks amazing:

Abby tells me she's going to CostCo and asks me if I need anything i just sing "Beefsticks" to the same tune as the Heathcliff opening song.

Had a dream where I embarrassingly told Abby that "Pitfall" was an Akira Kurosawa film when it's obviously directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara.

If people want to know how I enjoyed my 4 days off, I would say very well.

When I wake up and don’t see my wife in the first 30 seconds, I unironically think she’s been raptured. “This is it, this is the end times.” I accept my fate. Then I hear the coffee grinder going and realize she’s just making me a cup of coffee.

Watching the Animatrix with Abby and Im wondering if they have one Matrix or if they have a bunch of them. Maybe there's a Battlestar Galactica Matrix and a Cowboy Matrix.

Predestination, Executioners, Truck Turner and Heroic Trio for this week.

It's me. I'm a workboy.

I will 100% always guess wrong if this means subtitles are on or off and this is my almost 100th criterion Blu-ray.

Battlestar Galactica (Series, 2003 - 2009)
