I had a part CT scanned back in 2019. ~$100 for the scan, which is reasonable since this is non-destructive vs. the time + destruction if I was to do this by hand. It was an enlightening experience, and if you ever get the chance to do so - go for it!

I went downstairs an hour later and the slip to go pick it up was in the postbox. I am a legal EU resident once more! (As opposed to Portugal only resident while the card was expired)

My residence card is still in the mail, so I can’t make it this year 😢 had to donate my ticket.

In 2001/2 my dad bought a NiMH battery drill. It was wonderful; for about 5 seconds. Today you can run a LiPo drill for a couple of months between charges.

Something that really gets me about the state of battery development is that consumers have so many amazing battery powered devices now. Cordless stick vacuums have become very mainstream. Almost everyone is using cordless power tools, in fact lots of auto shops hardy use air tools anymore!

One perk I just realised - it's at TU Berlin, which is close to Berlin Zoo - an absolute must visit if you are in Berlin!

We are soooo excited to announce that the tickets for the 2026 Open Hardware Summit are officially available! Snag your tickets today and maybe even get yourself an extra cool Summit tee? 👀 ticket.nodeforum.org/OHS26/

I’m booked!!! 🤞my residence permit will be renewed in time

I'm in the UK right now. I really wish there was a better way to do this. I have an email address that's old enough to drink in the US.

Intel “Optane” surplus 16GB NVME SSDs are <€4 on Aliexpress. Time to replace a couple Raspberry Pi boot drives! (Apparently these can be fakes, but it’s better than MicroSDs, so I’m not complaining)

How many millions of MicroUSB connectors do we think TI is still sitting on? This is one of their newer dev kits (May 2024!)

AISLER@aisler.net

MSPM0C1104, they also claim that the WLCP version is the "smallest MCU in the World" but it also comes in SOT-16 and TSSOP20 packages.

🥳 Yay! So glad it’s on the continent this year! Now I’m just hoping my residence permit will be renewed in time!

The 2026 Open Hardware Summit is coming.... to Berlin, Germany! On May 22nd and 23rd!! Still so much news to come here but we wanted to be sure you knew! For now you can enjoy the beautiful logo designed by @bleeptrack@vis.social and check out the site at 2026.oshwa.org (livestream heard it first🤭)

For no reason at all, I was looking at Paper Guillotines. (I can't find reasonably priced A7 paper here in Portugal) This beast is 325 EUR... and weighs 17KG!

There are absolutely incredible levels of dedication on display when doing something like this!

i reverse-engineered the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5! check it out at github.com/schlae/cm5-r...

I was considering Milanote after being coaxed by a couple Youtuber sponsor segments, but then realised Apple Freeform exists. It's 90% of Milanote at 0% of the cost. Helped me quickly clean up my tab mess and organise a few ideas. Definitely worth considering if you need something similar.

My kiddo’s been struggling with anxiety since day one. I’m not lying if I say what happened today would have blown my mind a year ago. Super proud of this little guy. (He’s about 4/5m up in the air here)

Sine waves are the best waves. Once you implement dimming against a sin() function, you won't ever use linear dimming again.

Speaking of... @jeffgeerling.com have you ever considered Tape storage as a project? *kindly ignore my spelling.

Chris@no1089.com

In my mind, tape backups on good old casettes make so much sense. I don't* know why it's not a thing. *I do, but I'd love to be dead-wrong. Tape storage could be an excellent home-backup solution, but it's SO expensive.

i have an enormous amount of respect for PCB fab workers. PCBs are ubiquitous and mostly invisible, but it takes a surprising and hard to understand amount of expertise to make them reliably at any scale and price, much less at the scale and price we're seeing

This is how you buy a Vidaa based "smart" TV and get the discount, minus all the ad nonsense. Pihole to the rescue! The funny thing is that Netflix is not even signed in, and has never been opened on the TV, but it's been hit 22000 times in the last 24hrs. (logs-netflix-com).

This is the only valid form for a game tutorial. Video tutorials are evil 😅. 15mins of fluff for 1s of info.

Ads - at your fingertips! But this is pretty neat, if a little useless. Apple could not make the Touch Bar work, no idea how anyone will make this work. (For the record I loved the touch bar - just no proper utilities for it!)

Do I NEED this? No. Do I WANT this? Yes. (It's been on my buy list for a while 😅) Automated pre/post production checks is something I've not yet done and want to do.

are you a platform/embedded developer? do you need to interact with hardware in a semi-custom manner? would you like to suffer a lot less doing it? if so, #GlasgowInterfaceExplorer might be for you. the code below is all you need to build a custom testbench:

After a week of stress it's been confirmed the issue was a part sourced in the Shenzhen market. I can't tell you how relieved I am that it's not the design.

After a long day of debugging this finally works. Turns out Nordic’s SDK is… odd. Newer versions won’t compile their samples, and the nRF5340 is tricky with it’s configuration if you don’t use the DCDC stuff. I softbricked it, but JFlash came to the rescue. Their ecosystem is a bit fragmented IMHO.

Accidentally unplugged an SD card from the mac while copying. Quickly replugged it, and MacOS just kept on trucking….

It’s quite funny digging out an old 32GB SD card I bought for my camera - that I was very happy with and though was pretty fast - only to see half the speed of a bog cheap high endurance NAS SD card at double the capacity. The tech has matured at an astonishing rate.

ok, you're not ready for the answer. i traced it on the PCB. you'll never guess what it's connected to ... it's a max3232. yep. it's just RS232. i'm so used to "serial" being "a logic level UART" that i got spooked by a completely ordinary 5V level RS232 ;w;
