This is a photo of Intel engineers working on the CAD design for the Intel 80286 CPU. I was drawn to the image on the right - since we have high resolution die photos, could we actually find what part of the CPU he was working on? Yes, we can #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing #reverseengineering

In my opinion, reading books is easy mode. No, this isn't humblebragging, I'm trying to make a point. The things you really need to worry about is anything that is non-narrative and *between exactly 3 and 25 pages long*. That's the shit that'll really get you. Anything that length is a bear trap.

(you could legitimately want to do this for zero-downtime switch to git-pages, but most of the time this will happen because we have a setting to pre-fill the site URL and server for the "most obvious" case)

you know i love good diagnostics. here's one diagnostic for you: it attempts to make a TLS connection to the provided site URL and if that fails with an error suggesting the on-demand TLS certificate can't be provisioned, it tells you to fill out the "Server" field:

here's another diagnostic: if you provide a site URL that doesn't look like it's being served by the provided server, it will warn you about it:

this has helped (if i remember right) multiple people now, so, recommendation: if you take antihistamines, and they make you sleepy, and you don't want them to make you sleepy, consider 3rd gen ones like fexofenadine. day and night difference

this works especially well if you for some reason need to take a lot of antihistamines for a long time. i would take cetirizine every day twice a day for some time and it wrecked my ability to work. which is how i switched to fexofenadine

just finished SULFUR. great game. i love sulphur. i have an entire bottle of it on my bedside table, because it is so pleasantly yellow (i also kind of like the smell)

added Qt integration for #GlasgowInterfaceExplorer via PySide6 the dialog below is just 125 lines of code (plus a .ui file from Qt Designer); it offers every basic function of memory-25q applet in a touchscreen-friendly format

i left X because i could say "cis" but my followers could not. if you claim to support freedom of speech then deliver on it. otherwise get fucked bsky.app/profile/kate...

i left X because it wasn't home any more. if you don't build a new home together, it slowly gets worse and worse, and then one day your old home will be intolerably bad and then you got nowhere to go

In other words, the presence of a strategic opponent pushed people to produce very strong random behavior — in many cases, indistinguishable from uniform randomness. This is surprising, and contrary to what we might expect given the persistent failures in human randomization!

the #Codeberg #GitPages instance now hosts about 10k individual sites* and averages about 1.5 uploads per minute! while tiny on the vc-funded corporation scale, i think this is quite good for an independent nonprofit

Lots of things happening in `mdbook`: we have a new team in the Rust organization in charge to maintain it and we're going through open pull requests reviewing/merging/closing etc. Last one merged added the possibility to add an icon in the sidebar of your book: github.com/rust-lang/md...

TIL active lightning rods are a thing. look at this angry bastard. it tries to, faster than Zeus himself, fire its own lightning (early streamer emission innit) back at the sky to beckon a strike to hit it instead of something more important. long live the fantastical hubris of NF C 17-102

thanks to Elen's extraordinary effort over the last several months, #GlasgowInterfaceExplorer revD1 design files have been sent to JLC. we hope this will also be the production revision (or if we do have a revD2, it happens with minimal changes)

I'm incredibly happy with this design. we've managed to squeeze in basically everything we reasonably could fit into this form factor (it's barely bigger than revC), and significantly more than I anticipated; and from a design perspective, we have made few if any compromises.

I expect each Glasgow device, no matter the revision, to last a decade or several, and when you're planning for that much use, even small mistakes get amplified by time

for you, this means the excitement has reached the next level! for us, it means this is the time to fill out a mountain of paperwork while thinking about filling out an even bigger mountain of paperwork
