There, I think the players that ran the downtime investigation tonight dug up enough to help everyone at the LARP session tomorrow possibly crack this plot. #vtm

This is a hybrid game that runs both live and over discord so this was a way for some players who can't make it to the live game tomorrow to contribute.

This is where I feel betrayed by my parents and their generation (I’m 58). They taught us that people wanting to come to America was a compliment to America and we should be proud of it. I took that message to heart and now I found out they didn’t actually believe it. I still believe it 100%.

Running a downtime investigation for a few players before our LARP session tomorrow and maybe be careful using aura perception around really strong wraith effects.

I love True Ref and hype them up any chance I get. Seeing them collab with an artist I also really admire is great.

Introducing my first collaborative pack with @trueref.bsky.social! I'm so particular about what kind of reference I like to use, so I really enjoyed teaming up with TrueRef to create this gorgeous and super inspiring pack that checks all the boxes. Find it here - www.patreon.com/loish/posts/...

Back in MY day we got mad and wrote a 100,000 word fix it fic. Fandom these days is SOFT I TELL YOU they would never survive the things I have seen

This post is unavailable.

USE REFERENCE! USE REFERENCE! USE REFERENCE! Also build a reference library. I have nearly a terabyte of reference images on an external drive that I've been collecting for years plus books. I have reference photos from websites that no longer exist that would be impossible to find now.

Use reference. I’m serious. I get it that somehow you or someone convinced you that using reference is “cheating.” It’s not. You are just hindering yourself.

And another one. Who is doing this to young artists that they question whether tracing their own art is okay?

Noadi@noadi.bsky.social

Who the hell keeps telling beginner artists that tracing their own work is cheating? I've seen multiple posts to this effect lately and it's wrong. Artists all trace their own work, that's how we transfer a sketch to clean paper or canvas, inking a drawing, or doing a clean drawing on a new layer.

One of my rare book DNFs today. Some men can write women really well, this one could not, especially not in first person. Also the writer apparently has never in his life cooked because who cooks bacon in oil? I know that's petty but still.

I'll actually go a step further and say that tracing any image you have permission to use (your own photo, a 3d mockup you've made, or images that you have a license to use is okay. I create 3d mockups all the time to trace because I fucking suck at perspective.

Had to go hop onto my PC to find this but this is a finished character commission and the 3d mockup for the background

I used to quite frequently take photos of my hands and trace those. I don't anymore just because I finally got good enough at drawing hands that I don't need to (I still take reference photos of my hands all the time I just don't trace them).

To the person noting there is not enough money in the world to license every piece of intellectual property stolen for "AI" training: you're sooooo close to the point, friend, keep going, you'll get there if you try

Well I've never felt more validated by an art book. How to Draw by Scott Robertson is recommended by like everyone for improving perspective and it actually recommends using 3d to create perspective grid underlays because doing it by hand is really hard.

Bored and I want to draw but my hand hurts so instead I designed and 3d printed some stencils at common aspect ratios to use for thumbnailing. These are all 2.5 inches on the long side.

I've had this book on my wishlist for years but it was always so pricey. Finally snagged a copy. I'm such a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro and I love seeing how other creative people think and plan.

Let's repost this since I realized posting at 3am might not have reached many people.

Hey fellow #artists I'm on a quest to improve some areas that I'm really weak in. I have books covering perspective and environments either on my shelf or on the way. What I'm lacking are books on animals and creature design, any recommendations?

As someone old enough to remember the last years of the Cold War, I can think of another.

Reshare because I'm really really proud of this. Blender is hard.

6 months of animating and it's finished! Here's my final animation that was presented as part of a hybrid animation and dance performance at NecronomiCon Providence on 8/15. This was so much work and time and I learned a lot that I'll use for the next one. #blender #3danimation youtu.be/nObTrlV40oU

I ordered all the supplies for cyanotype printing right before everything fell apart last month. Finally getting around to doing it. These are just to play around and learn. Used a photo of a deer skull and some dried milkweed pods that I took and printed them inverted on transparency film.

Starting to maybe feel like myself again. I'm not crying every day at least. There's still this knot of pain when I think of my friend, it's not fair that she's gone. She was too young.

One of the downsides of running a fairly large LARP-style game (it's run online so not exactly live) is that sometimes players make choices that lead to PvP and while I try to discourage it as much as possible it's sometimes unavoidable. This just happened and it sucks.

My whole apartment smells like split pea soup and I have "peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old" on loop in my head. I also have some nice crusty bread that will complete my medieval peasant dinner tonight.

It took me until 830pm to start dinner but at least I started it. I haven't been eating properly the past couple weeks, and I know that no matter how sad I am I can't keep not eating.

Add another thing to the list of things I agree with the Catholic Church on. It's not a very long list but it's a pretty good one.

I just hate finished a book and I'm so angry at it. Repeat after me: Do not jam a bunch of incredibly unsubtle anime references into your book. It's not clever and it just takes the reader out of the book. It actually had a decent premise and plot but squandered it.

There are books where pop culture references work. Those are books where the setting is Earth (or at least sci fi where Earth exists and the characters are from there). It's not on a very clearly not-Earth setting with mushroom people to name characters after anime.
