bsky.app/profile/knic... I made some half-assed tweet about that brad chef guy being on his third botulism scandal that got rted a zillion times and picked up by a couple of websites and he never made another It's Alive after that.

"what was your biggest impact on the internet?" midwest miku

Don't want to ruin the conclusion but it contains the implication Iain Sinclair didn't know offhand what "slevege" meant. A dismaying thing to learn about the ultimate "city boy"

bsky.app/profile/samt... A lesson in detachment and writerly priorities from a man who rang "everyone he knew" after one minimum-effort prank call convinced him he'd won a nobel prize and then toured the international press, red arse aloft, to claim he'd been made a pawn in a sinister conspiracy

There should be a City Boy version of Saw. Instead of robes, the jigsaw acolytes could wear old chore coats. One game could be staying in a freezing bath wearing selvedge denim. Kill a guy with the actual tractor used by the original owner of their carhartt jacket. Loopwheel someone's guts.

sad to report that when I heard this song live for the first time before the album was out, my first thought was "I wonder if this was inspired by Revival by Stephen King"

bsky.app/profile/amyt... Kano is canonically australian in Mortal Kombat games because he had an australian accent in the first film. However, actor Trevor Goddard, ex-vocalist of '77 punx The Belsen Horrors, was actually english and only affected an "Australian ex-con" persona after moving to LA.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

bsky.app/profile/noch... this episode covers Cocaine Eyes, my favorite neil young song. It's likely you haven't heard it, even if you're a Neil fan. He recorded it immediately after the 80s CSNY comeback. It is so cruel about Stills (and Croz&Nash imo) that it probably counts as attempted murder.

Me Here To Do The Thinking #3 is live. It's "big macs for the whole band, Otto" as @ckunzelman.bsky.social and I continue to mostly disagree about Neil Young's whole discography. This time we hit the 88 - 08 canonization run. Listen here: www.patreon.com/SFULTRA/post... or the usual podcast places

Days That Used To Be (lyrics left) had its live debut in October 1988. Cocaine Eyes (lyrics right) was recorded in December 1988. It's great that he penned a treacley "I was in Buffalo Springfield, remember?" ballad then, immediately after, recorded a song that may as well be called "I won CSNY".

I like a lot of neil guitar eras but El Dorado is the best sound he ever got, imo. It's like he's had trash metal vaguely described to him by a non-musician, never bothered listening to any of it but decided he could do it anyway and ended up sounding like Fushitsusha playing rockabilly.

when people think Loud Neil, they think Crazy Horse but they physically could not have met the challenge of that opening riff the way Chad Cromwell and Rick Rosas do here. Neil had actually recently fired the Horse's rhythm section for sloppy playing during his This Note's For You bluesguy era.

bsky.app/profile/inte... I applied to be a bouncer when I was like 18, on the urging of a childhood friend who was a bouncer. His boss drove to our street and interviewed me in his car. He gave me the job and I said "no thanks". Then I had to ignore his subsequent texts insisting I had the job.

Runner up: Criminal Minds: Evolution. Demented revival of a Psycho Of The Week procedural. 4 season arc about a serial killer who controls other serial killers via an IRC he set up during lockdown (???) who develops amnesia and helps them hunt his ornery serial killer mods. And they can swear now.

Spoilers: I thought they had topped out on weirdness in season 3 but in the latest one, they take a satirical true crime podcaster character played by paul f tompkins and through sheer force of will somehow make him the emotional lynchpin of the grand finale. It feels like a show I made up.

One of the funnier podcasting incidents I've had involved us vaguely planning a quick LATDF episode a few years ago and picking Duck! The Carbine High Massacre because it was a comedy. We had to not do it because I ended up reading about mass shooters for a month solid and had a depressive episode.

I, like all people who make stuff online, am prone to exaggeration about this kind of thing but I really did spend a month doing shit like reading Adam Lanza's entire post history from some terrible message board. Ah, I have posted about this before it looks like. oh well! bsky.app/profile/noch...
