Interesting that two of Rubio's great men are guys who built empires that fell apart within a generation of their death, and a third is a military dictator.

MeteorBlades@meteorblades.bsky.social

Marco Rubio in Athens, speaking on Western civilization’s greatness, touting: “…the qualities that led Alexander to conquer the entire known world reappeared in Caesar, then Charlemagne, and Cortes.” That‘s Hernán Cortés, who massacred and enslaved 1000s of Native people in what’s now Mexico.

Digger is a movie about a billionaire nepo baby funding art about how billionaires destroyed the world to distract people from the misery billionaires are still inflicting on the world, and it's the last film released by Warner Bros. before it's taken over by a billionaire nepo baby.

Walmart manager ass attitude.

I’m sorry, but if you bring an iced coffee - or any damn beverage at all - to a job interview, you’re disqualified. It’s not hard, people.

The problem with Silicon Valley isn't that they engage in group sex. It's that they come up with convoluted procedures to do it instead of posting on FetLife at 8:00 Saturday night like normal people.

The people who are running the massively powerful and lucrative US AI industry pretty much all know about this chart, and quite a few directly participated in the proceedings. Speaking of the rationalist sex cult who regard a Harry Potter fanfic as their Bible, and who also have tons of money.

This man has no rizz.

“Chicken Shop Date,” a popular YouTube series with over 3.4 million subscribers, will come to an end after more than 12 years, creator Amelia Dimoldenberg said. She said she thought of the show as her “very own romcom” and teased “a few final dates.”

What makes this movie great is it's that scene in the Rocketeer where Paul Sorvino's like, "I may be a gangster, but I don't like no Nazis" expanded to feature length.

It's crazy that it's taken 30 years for a filmmaker to realize that what people want from a Jurassic Park sequel is dinosaurs on a rampage in the suburbs, and it's not even a Jurassic Park movie.

To be clear, there are many practical issues with "AI" which may be overcome in time, but as a matter of philosophy, "AI" is idolatrous and an insult to life itself, and it funnels money to morally corrupt people through theft of labor. Even if it worked perfectly, it would be repugnant.

Say what you will about cell phones and social media, but they are capable of facilitating social connection. AI is only a tool to intermediate between users and the world.

There are two ways to look at this: (1) These people are stupid and don't understand investing. (2) These people understand investing way more than most economists.

My fundamental issue with Marxism and its derivatives is the idea that two guys with a 19th Century Eurocentric understanding of world history were able to suss out the True and Inevitable Course of History, and this is the only way events can unfold, and all who oppose it are enemies of the future.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

I love accelerationist arguments like this. Do you really think that “we’re going to intentionally make your lives worse so we can roll the dice down the line and maybe make it better (unless the revolution goes poorly)” is an argument that regular people are receptive to?

The Left and Right are both driven by wonky, unprovable notions of history -- one linear and progressive, and the other cyclical and regressive, Marx vs Spengler, and they're both nonsense.

The only thing more annoying than Will Stancil are people feel the need to dunk on Will Stancil. It's like watching nerds fight over whether Captain Kirk gets more tail than Han Solo.

She's one of the characters in the first season of The Facts of Life who didn't make it to the second.

"Cool kids on the Internet. They're doing the cool kid chatter. Some of 'em might be the coastal elites, making fun of how I talk. But let's be real. They're making fun of Michigan. They're thinking they're better than us. Their jokes, their criticism, only make me fight harder." -- Haley Stevens

A decade after "It's time for some game theory," it's depressing that somebody can name a Twitter account The Capitol Telegraph or Washington News Network, claim Trump is about to declare war on Denmark, and people will spread it as fact.

Walter Sobchak was right, having an ethos is better than not. Someone who does evil because they think it's right at least has a conscience. Somebody like Lindsey Graham who has no preference for good or evil beyond which will bring him power, is an utter void of humanity.

Then there were the home schooled girls who enrolled at my school as sophomores and used every presentation in speech and drama class to explain how Darwin recanted the theory of evolution before he died.

One of my friends in high school got knocked up by the son of one of the Christian Coalition guys who was already 20. Their parents forced them to get married, which lasted until she caught him smoking weed with a naked 16 year old while their toddler was taking a nap in the same room.

UN Ambassador Matt Whitaker: "People are enjoying the United States of America because it's an awesome place. We have extraordinary things like Buc-ee's and Chick-fil-A, very convenient to eat in your car while you're having a phone call. It's an amazing country."

If I ever received a call from the school that my child was gender nonconforming, the principal would have five assholes before I was done with him.

Frances Larina@franceslarina.bsky.social

HR 822 requires trusted adults (school employees, counselors, coaches as well as doctors & other health workers) to monitor children for signs of gender stereotype non-conformance and report them. Non-compliance results in steep fines and criminal punishment. This goes into effect in Idaho today.

Trump: And by the way, on July 4th it's going to be 107 degrees out and I'm gonna go and make a really long speech. Just to show that I can do anything. It's going to be 107.

Current reading. Sadly it is not about how the Lewis estate decided to reorder the Narnia series based upon a single letter where Jack humored a little boy by telling him it's okay to read the series in chronological rather than publication order.

Things I did not ask for: a commercial with Ice-T's girlfriend telling me how he uses Blue Chew to rail her while he sits there smiling like a guy who's son brought his grandkids to the old folks home for the first time since Easter.

One day Hollywood will get tired of adapting the same five Jane Austen and Brontë novels and give us a film based on Anthony Trollope or Ann Radcliffe, or maybe even Goethe.

No other word has done more damage to the craft of writing in recent years than “content”. Even if you’re using the word “content” ironically, or as a cute little joke, don’t. When someone calls writing “content” they’re pissing on someone’s hard work & passion. “Content” is Technosatan’s henchword.

The reason people hate the Democratic Party is it's run by people who want unwavering support from voters without ever having to engage with what voters actually want.

Jaime Harrison@jaimeharrison.bsky.social

I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.
