Vegetarian and vegan options are both more plentiful and of a higher quality basically everyone. This is true for many other dietary restrictions as well.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

The fad 20 years ago was a system wherein one looked at Google search trends, paid people in developing nations to research and write documents on those topics, then published them as ebooks. History doesn’t always repeat, but it rhymes.

It’s wild to think that if he had used an alias after college, the general public still might not know.

shaunt@shaunvids.bsky.social

he did also find the time yesterday to edit his patreon's about page and make private the financial information on there. it seems like the main lesson he's learned from all this is that he needs to hide things better

If that shit comes to you in a dream, you better wake up and apologize.

Don't watch the new Harry Potter series. Not even if you plan on keeping your HBO subscription because of other movies and shows on the platform. Not even if you pirate it. Do not watch it.

My PS5 has coincidentally been unplugged since March, and it’s easy to keep it off for another week, but the limited nature of this shows what a weak starting position the organizers think they have. Always room for it to improve though.

PlayStation users are banding together to boycott the Sony gaming brand's services, citing recent controversial decisions from the company.

This isn’t going to make ANY sense to someone who is principally a leftist, but there are Americans who would self describe as progressive while supporting American hegemonic interests. These people are anti-religion, anti-capital, and anti-domestic policing while being pro-military.

To them, ICE just makes the country worse. It disrupts local communities, discourages international talent and tourism, and threatens the framework of constitutional rights. The military, however, can be used to leverage the country’s economic, cultural, and logistical interests.

They don’t prioritize harm reduction to other people, or care about the liberation of oppressed communities, they just want institutions that serve their interests. What separates them from the right is that they can see how the status quo marginalizes them.

The BIGGEST disconnect between me and the community at large is Hollow Knight. I don’t enjoy the combat, find the art style appealing, or care to explore the world, which are the first three things most people say they like about the game. The contextual storytelling is good at least.

No hate, no dogpiling, just curious. For me, it's Skyrim. Don't know why, considering it should be exactly my kind of game, but it just didn't click for me.

I’m currently experiencing FOMO for the drama that existed in communities of which I’ve never been a part. Like, what were sneaker heads beefing over in the early 2000’s? Knitters in the 1980’s? What was the hottest stamp collecting take of 1957? There’s no archive for this stuff.

I have to confess: I’m in the camp that thinks listening to an audiobook is a different activity than reading a textual copy. I consider both of these activities equally valid ways to engage with literature, but I wouldn’t say I read an audiobook anymore than I would say I read a podcast.

Consider music as another example. One could read the sheet music, or listen to a performance, and both would give a sense of how the music sounds, but they are different activities. I acknowledge that for literature, it’s often a distinction without a difference, but I prefer words to be narrow.

People point to ignorance or greed as reasons why Americans reject climate data, but miss how their version of a just world hypothesis leads to rejecting scientific data as a form of ego preservation. These Americans need a villain for every problem, and if burning fossil fuels causes harm….

“Can I afford the tax? Yes. Is it going to deter me? No. But I think it’s shameful,” “…. Klein described his clients as ‘very angry’, but conceded the new tax was expected to be relatively minor compared to their overall net worth.” Imagine how mad the average person is with the housing market.

The way I used to watch every Thunderf00t video when he was making insubstantial insults about creationists, only to have a shocked Pikachu face when he started doing the same to feminists. I had to learn that being critical isn’t the same as thinking critically.

The Wii U had a good library by 2016. Every young person I know who got one did so circa 2015; we day one adopters had it rough.

woke stifler@yelix.bsky.social

i have seen some posts from people who i think are maybe a little younger than me that insist that the Wii U was entirely a failure of marketing despite amazing software. this is not true. the software was merely pretty good most of the time

I was trying to think of a sophisticated way to say “those with whom you commiserate” and my mind went to commissariat (obv wrong). I guess “commiserati” or “commiserato” would be the closest thing to words I want. Am I missing an obvious alternative?

How weird is it to think about something for hours a day for months and then it just ends? Maybe you come back to it next year, maybe not, but you know for the time being, it’s just not part of your life.

The fact that this was apparently in reference to Overwatch fans being upset that his new game ISN’T a hero shooter is the opposite of what I expected.
