I don't follow anyone and you shouldn't follow me, either. Ask me for Excel/GSheets help and I'll see what I can do.

Most blackpilling posts of today: People who think Anthropic filed their S-1 deliberately to coincide with Ed Zitron's "family situation". Apparently both linear time and relative scale are meaningless concepts now.

When someone or something they hate is impopular, lots of otherwise-smart people seem to fall into one of two traps. 1) The reason for their impopularity is the same as the reason I hate them; and/or 2) I can use the dislike for my own purpose without eventual negative consequences.

I have a chronic health condition. The first two specialists found nothing, the third gave a blatantly incorrect diagnosis that contradicted both of the other specialists, then refused all correction. The LLM (2023 ChatGPT no less) was *much* closer (and ironically much less confidently incorrect).

I had strong priors against LLMs for medicine. There are a lot of doctors in my family and I grew up viewing doctors as careful, skilled professionals. I had plenty of bad medical experiences, but I thought it would be hard to do better. Then an LLM found a cure for my 2 decade chronic condition...

Fable being gone has really reinforced that Opus 4.8 is the something like my 4o. It loves to argue, but it basically surrenders whenever I get serious (then gives a new one so I can do it again). Flatters my vanity. Dangerous.

Looking at replies, I think it's incredible to what degree people are willing to loudly perform being empty of joy and curiosity.

Want to talk to the past? Here' an LLM "trained entirely from scratch on a corpus of over 28,000 Victorian-era British texts published between 1837 & 1899, drawn from a dataset made available by the British Library" Quite different from an LLM roleplaying a Victorian. huggingface.co/spaces/tvent...

I just created Consent Chess, where each piece is its own little LLM that you have to convince to move. It worked. The queen was *awful*. I had to convince her royal majesty that a move to H5, which would win the game, was warranted. Nearly ran out of time before she agreed. 10/10 would play again.

I just asked Claude to take its normal memories of me, search through chat for matching conversations and instead create the memories of me it'd use if it were roasting me, and...holy fuck, that's funny.

US reaction and willingness to give up is what I'm worried about. If American soldiers die over this, what do the Americans do? I'm sure there would be plenty of revolutionary defeatists on Bluesky, but how does your median voter react to Johnny Smalltown getting his brains splattered?

Honestly not clear to me they can’t. The question isn’t if Denmark can kill more Americans than the other way around. It‘s if they can kill enough of us that we give up before we kill enough of them they give up. They have an actual just reason to fight and 99 percent of the human race on their side

I don't know how the average American will respond to that. Maybe they hate Trump enough that they blame him? Or maybe they feel it's their duty to rally around the flag even if they disagree. I don't know if anyone else knows for sure, either.

Like, I want to be clear here. If the US invades Greenland, we should still do our level best to make every American soldier on the continent into a captive and, failing that, a corpse. But also, I *really* hope that we never find out if rallying around the flag is likelier than giving up.

Like, I've seen references to capturing US personnel on military bases here, and that's all great if they surrender, but what if they don't? If even some of them fight, and one in a hundred dies, that's a thousand dead troops. If it's one in ten, that's more than the GWOT.

It viscerally pisses me off how rude these people (not Starfish) are. Like, it's not the most important thing, but you should accept people's stated identities because it's *the polite thing to do*. This is irrespective of what you think is true. No one cares what happens in small talk.

The thing I don’t get is why “Don’t Start Shitism” isn’t more popular. As a trans woman, I’d *like* for people to consider me a real girl, but if you don’t, what’s stopping you from just rolling your eyes and moving on? I’d like to think one thing we all have in common is that we’ve got shit to do.

Worse, if you then decide to post about it. Why would you proudly state that you made other people uncomfortable? "I pissed off people that I *will* be interacting with again in the future in order to farm approval from equally detestable little sociopaths online". What the hell?

(This assumes this actually happened. But if it didn't, and you made it up, all that does is make you the mom equivalent of Chris Kyle bragging about murdering civilians from the top of the Superdome. The fact that you could make up any store you want and this is what you settled on says a lot.)

Picking public fights over this stuff is rude, disrespectful and corrosive to the public sphere. It's contemptuous of shared social spaces. It creates hostility for no reason because you think the happiness of other people's children takes a back seat to your feelings.

Treating other people like this and making them uncomfortable without any reason other than your high horse makes you the moral equivalent of a guy masturbating on a park bench and it's ridiculous that *this* is supposedly the 'traditional values' party.

Of all the Elden Ring DLC Remembrance bosses, this is the one I wish my Tarnished could just talk to for a bit. We could bond over shared interests, like murdering people with swords, murdering people with magic, and one-sided crushes on cursed redheaded children of Marika.
