The northern white rhino is effectively extinct. Can a healthy pop be restored from cryopreserved cells of only 12 inds? @arynwilder.bsky.social et al. show how restoration from biobanked cells eases constraints of a limited founder pool to enable recovery 🦏 📸 San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance

About 15-20 yrs ago, a bunch of reviews (inc. 1 by me) made predictions about the future of genomics in conservation. 1 yr ago at ICISB, Robin Waples assessed which of those predictions had been fulfilled. Sam May & Sam Rosenbaum now led the effort to turn this into a review: doi.org/10.1111/mec....

Proud to see this paper from @akopyan.bsky.social's PhD published in Science, with co-first author @fishyomics.bsky.social Silversides adapt across a steep temperature gradient through multiple chromosomal inversions that maintain continuous trait variation rather than simple ecotype switches

Our paper is out in @Science! The Atlantic silverside spans Earth's steepest latitudinal gradient in coastal sea-surface temperature. Despite high gene flow, populations show clinal genetic variation in multiple locally adapted traits. doi.org/10.1126/scie...
