A must read showing how much the anti trans positions of the New York Times has been pushed directly from the top.

Trans News Network@transnews.network

In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

The New York Times is continuing to push their anti trans agenda.

I asked around and this does appear to be a deliberate style change. It wasn’t announced to staff, but contentious style changes often aren’t. They’re just imposed by the standards desk when they review a story. (Take that for what it is) This desk btw is run by Patrick Healy, no friend of trans ppl

If it's a day ending in y, the New York Times is publishing transphobia. They published an essay by notably bigoted transphobe Jesse Singal. He shouldn't be allowed near the Times for what he's done to the trans community, let alone opine on their healthcare.

This is a horrifying glimpse of just how the New York Times effectively tortured one of its trans editors. Depriving her of a voice while it pushed narratives undermining her very humanity.

Must read article on the bias at the New York Times against trans people.

Assigned Media@assignedmedia.org

New original reporting on bias at the New York Times: Evan Urquhart has the story of @billiejsweeney.bsky.social, once an editor on the NYT international desk, and how she tried, and ultimately failed, to improve the paper's coverage of trans issues from the inside.

Today, the New York TImes prominently featured a opinion piece by David French advancing the arguments of Tennessee is banning gender affirming care. French didn't disclose he was a prior attorney for ADF, an anti-LGBTQ hate group working to eliminate all of the rights of trans people.

The NYT is effectively letting a former hate group attorney get prominent placement advancing key anti-trans arguments. There isn't a counter piece at all nor a piece by a trans person or their families. It's a key feature of editor Kathleen Kingsbury's transpobia in managing the opinion section.

Azeen Ghorayshi has been central in the New York Times efforts to undermine the rights of trans people. Her singular purpose is to soften support among liberal elites to enable passage of anti trans legislation. It's why her stories are always prominently placed and get push notifications.

The New York Times' transphobia has been happening for over a century. Here's an article from 1901 discussing Murray Hall, a trans member of Tammany Hall.

yeah. sucks. although some of his colleagues spoke highly of him even after finding out. both the quoted ppl in the nyt article gendered him correctly despite the article misgendering him

This was a manufactured doubt campaign by the Times to enable this specific outcome. It was clear this was a priority for the editorial staff. Every one of these stories got prominent placement and push notifications.

in hindsight the NYT anti-trans crusade is one of the most despicable things that any big time journalism outfit in this country has ever done. a perfect and clearly intentional layup for the fascists on the Supreme Court

New York Times is Anti-Trans reposted

It’s genuinely shocking if you’re remotely familiar with the basic facts of trans care and youth medicine. It is *profoundly* difficult to access gender-affirming care as a minor and the Times has printed more than a dozen articles implying that it is too easy.
