The culture of your workplace is not something you write down on a wall and recite at quarterly meetings. It’s either part of what you believe and you make decisions that embody it, or it isn’t and you don’t. How you treat people matters.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel bad for Man City at all. If they are guilty they will deserve to face the music, but… It doesn’t sit okay with me that people like Roberto Mancini aren’t facing the same level of questioning and disdain that the club are.

We cannot just accept that Man City did bad things all by themselves. If City are guilty, then there are agents, players, coaches (and probably others) who were all party to it. They would all need to be sanctioned.

I get so confused when people are happy to make the same mistake repeatedly. Why wouldn’t you try and improve your process? The only logical answer I can find is that the person doesn’t consider the consequence sufficient.

“Oh, the parts have come in, we’re working on your car today and it will be ready by EOP tomorrow.” Do they forget that modern cars tell owners where they are parked and how long they’ve been there?

This marmot was super curious, coming close and scampering away, passing behind rocks, and back again. It’s the first time I’ve been able to get this close, and I think it’s because it was mutual curiosity. Did you know marmots hibernate up to 8 months of the year? #photography

By far the most frustrating and belittling aspect of my autistic experience is being told that something that is clearly, demonstrably, objectively true is false.

People are all too often intentionally vague in their communication because accuracy creates reasonable expectations, including accountability.

And please, if you care about an autistic person, don’t attempt to explain or rationalise this kind of behaviour. This is not an ‘us’ problem.

I hate the way that the UK is so comfortable leaving people behind. Older people, disabled people, vulnerable people, all treated like an inconvenience.

I’ve got a new work laptop and I’ve gotta say, I don’t know why anyone would choose to buy a Windows box. I was spoiled by being able to be macOS exclusive for five years in my previous two jobs. And I am deep in the Apple ecosystem at home. It’s just a nicer experience.

Another day and more political bike shedding from politicians that will do anything but acknowledge that phones, tablets and games consoles have had parental controls for years and that wayyy too many parents just can’t be arsed.

Or where Pep leaves City. And gets replaced by Maresca?! Be real unfortunate if those sanctions dropped on City this summer. Just saying.

I find it incredibly frustrating when fully grown adults feign the inability to do things just because they can’t be arsed. The kind of person who always finds the time/money/energy when it’s something they care about, but suddenly becomes incapable when it suits them.

I hate the cliquey shit. It’s so painfully obvious when you’re not one of the cool kids and four decades in, I just don’t have time for it.

Everyone has time, it’s just about priorities. When people aren’t interested in you until they need or want something, you just gotta remember that you can close door on your side.

it's remarkable how widespread .webp files are on the internet while also being so loathed (by me) and insufficiently supported (by all my software)

By far the most overwhelming feeling I experience as an autistic person is the feeling of being outed as different and wrong. That moment where you realise the mask has completely slipped and everyone has noticed and they are rejecting you.

And that feeling is oh so often the result of autism making you a convenient fall guy, because the world is mostly Mean Girls.

Masking. It pleases me that I am so good at it that I am able to succeed. It makes me sad that I learned it by going through so much.

Life is too short to either be, or be around, people who are perpetually butt hurt about something. Not everything is that deep.

I feel like I’m starting another chapter of my life. I have [another] new job. I’m starting to come to terms with not working with my friends. There is a massive opportunity in front of me to learn and grow, scary, but exciting. Uncomfortable and also necessary.

Never underestimate what you can achieve purely through defiance. Someone tells you you can’t? Summon that watch-me-mother-fucker energy and get it done.

Never assume everyone shares your drive, your hunger, your desire to succeed. There are plenty of people who are comfortable doing what they’re doing, the way they’ve always done it and incentivising those folks is tough.

I can’t verbalise fully the grief I feel for the lost years where I didn’t know I was autistic & wasn’t on tablets to help with depression/anxiety/looping thoughts. But I am grateful for the time I have got left, with my happier brain and some ability to work my way around things I find difficult

Anyone who think Junior Doctors should strike when it’s convenient for the government doesn’t really understand how collective bargaining works.

I find it bizarre that Streaming Services learned nothing from the extinction of Cable TV. They have recreated the same business model, with the same greedy, taken-for-granted attitude towards their customers and the same alarm bells (piracy).

Reminder that if you’re uncomfortable being called out for your shitty behaviour, you have the option to not behave that way. (And that’s a far more likely route to success than you trying to convince me not to call you out on said shitty behaviour).

I come from a world where _quite literally_ the show must go on. You do your absolute best to ensure the software keeps running, as well as it can. In your world it might be fine to throw an exception, but in mine it absolutely isn’t and so that’s just not how my brain works when coding.

There is no right way. I met one of my oldest friends via a tweet about a hypnodisc looking robot on The Gadget Show and I met my wife via a tweet about clouds. Some people are just your people. Sometimes they are your people for a short while. Sometimes it’s forever.
